4. But see, even DUers, keeping alert for news, are not |

that aware of the situation in Afghanistan. IMHO this will be the bush strategy for the infamous June 30 Iraq handover....rig a little show, 'hand over' the crown, get the heck out, and then shut down any news coverage of the place, minimalize what does come through, and distract. Oh, and blame any blatant disasters on those incompetent barbarian, less-than-white-men Iraqis.

7. Luckily Our Allies Haven't Forgotten About Afghanistan |
|
Last year, Wesley Clark spoke out about the diversion of so many resources (including translators, intelligence and the most elite U.S. troops) from Afghanistan to Iraq. Afghanistan of course was the REAL home for international terrorism.
Fortunately, our allies still realize the threats in Afghanistan. Canada, Germany, France, New Zealand, the Czech Republic and other countries still have troops fighting in Afghanistan and training the new Afghan Army.
Most of Afghanistan is still not under the control of the Afghan government. The Taliban has a real chance of resurging, because most U.S. and allied troops are either in Kabul or chasing reports that Bin Laden is hiding the Pakistan border. The warlords could change sides at any time - with their own armies.
The bulk of the country is not protected by government or western forces. The Taliban has been burning schools in southern Afghanistan to try to keep females from attending school.

8. Actually, the Taliban Doesn't Just Have a CHANCE of Resurging |
|
They've done gone and resurged!
You are correct, the international community realizes the importance of Afghanistan, which is why they prefer to have their troops there as opposed to Iraq. Sad really, we really DID have a chance to make a real difference in that country if we gave it the attention it deserved...
