Sorry friend Blaze, but it's simply not going to happen with the Republican party in charge of all three branches of government.
Impeachment requires articles of such -- basically the charges of wrongdoing -- to be drawn up by the U.S. House of Representatives. Controlled by Repugs Hastert and Delay, they won't even begin an investigation, much less sending any bill containing said Articles to the floor of the House for a vote.
After said Articles are drawn up, it is up to the Senate to hold a trial to determine the President's guilt or innocence. A Republican-controlled Senate would never muster a majority to convict. (Neither will the Senate Republican leaders allow any sort of investigation of the Administration either.)
True, Bush, Cheney, and their friends have committed heinous crimes. They've violated international treaties. They've lied to Congress to get them to authorize military action. They took this country to war on false pretenses. They deliberately ordered the bombing of certain civilian targets in an effort to kill a couple of individuals. They authorized the assassination of a foreign national on another country's soil. They have arrested and held without trial, hearing, or indictment both American citizens and foreign nationals. They have a gulag in Guantanamo, Cuba; other prisoners are being held in conditions that the Red Cross and Amnesty International say are the same as torture. They have "rendered" prisoners to other countries that are even more overt in their torture practices.
The list goes on and on and on. Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, and several other members of the Administration could very reasonably be charged with Contempt of Congress, willful violations of international treaties and peace agreements (as signed and accepted by the Senate), willful violations of the both the Constitutional and human rights of U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, and quite possibly treason.
Impeachment is a power granted by the Constitution, a process, that rests solely in the hands of Congress. They, however, being under the control of the same party as the man in the White House, will not even look into allegations of wrongdoing, numerous as they are.
We, as citizens, must work at the levels of action available to us -- helping Democratic Party candidates win against these corrupt Republicans. Giving generously to causes such as the DU and other outlets where we have a hope of getting real "fair and balanced" news. And most of all we MUST vote, and we need to convince everyone else we know that this election is the most important one in many decades. If this one goes down with the Repugs still on top, I seriously doubt this country can last another four years.
This is, of course, assuming the elections aren't suspended for some "national emergency", conveniently timed...
