3. While the picture may be authentic, and the message real...
...let's not forget two possibilities. 1) It may be some soldiers idea of a gag. He had the pic staged and the sign is bogus. 2)Can you say PhotoShop? Sure, I knew you could.

5. it's already been examined for Photoshop signs
Checked out as real by that account. Gag, maybe, if so in just as bad taste as if it was true--which I have no reason to believe it is not.

12. Photoshop has already been disproven.....
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 05:20 PM by ParanoidPat
.....Open the photo in Photoshop, change it to greyscale and enlarge it. Zoom in on the printing on the cardboard. (If you have trouble making the pattern out, try inverting the image, that is turn it to a negative image. You can also further enhance it by pushing the contrast a bit.) Note the corrugation lines in the cardboard and try to change the printing without disturbing or eliminating the pattern that shows up behind the writing. Now go to any of the subsequently posted pictures with the writing changed and look for the classic corrugation pattern in the cardboard. It's not there. IMHO, the photo was not faked.

On Edit: Added images from this thread in LBN.

Original

Photoshopped

18. Frankly I don't believe it.
A manipulation of a manipulation of a manipulation of a scan/digital? It's like trying to read a fax of a fax of a copy of a fax.

4. As bad as that is, this is worse
(from the link)

Awad said CAIR has also received an anonymous letter from a soldier who recently returned from Iraq that claims a commanding officer engaged in inappropriate conduct with prepubescent Iraqi girls. The letter states that the officer, who was named by the writer, referred to the girls as "pre-rag heads" and coerced local Iraqi leaders to provide them in exchange for protection by American soldiers. (The officer's military unit was also named in the letter.)

The letter-writer indicated revulsion at the officer's alleged actions. He or she wrote: "The thought of all this makes me sick to my stomach. I am afraid to bring this to anyone in the Army, because I am doubtful that they would believe a soldier over the Battalion Commander."

10. I also doubt this part of the report.
particularly if the photo is "shopped" which it seems it might be.

11. LBN thread here, with several Photoshop examples...

Many posters in this thread are examining the "Photoshopping," and many believe the photo is bona fide.

I don't know about the thread from a couple days ago; do you have a link, pduck?

16. I'd love to know how people "authenticate" a low-resolution image. . .
at 72 pixels per inch, this thing looks like a rocky riverbed at any enlargement.

13. The solution?
This incident should be investigated, and if the photo is real, Lcpl Boudreaux should face the investigation to explain his conduct.

I don't mean he should be drummed out of the service. He may be a fine soldier who let his baser instincts get the better of him. He should account for his actions, and face appropriate discipline if he is found guilty -- not be "let off", not be "made an example of", but face appropriate discipline.

No conscientious soldier expects less.

But such conduct is not just a clear-cut violation of the UCMJ -- there are reportedly many such violations taking place these days. The Military must be vigilant, since these soldiers are representing not only the US Military, but the United States, and (ideally) all the Democratic states.

Surely, they have to remember that quote about "Hearts and Minds".

If it's real? An open thought -- "Lcpl Boudreaux, I thank you for your service to America. You've freely taken up a burden that I myself am unable to shoulder. But you seriously need to get your head out of your ass, son."

15. THERE ARE NO LANCE CORPORALS IN THE ARMY
only the USMC.

This guy is not wearing USMC pattern camoflage.

Yes, it is possible that he is a jarhead with and old uniform, but I doubt it. He looks like an army civil affairs type.

17. So, who says this picture...
even came from Iraq? Looks like Texas to me.

Why not some schmuck out in the desert have a couple of Mexican kids pose with him? Who would know?

Pictures like this are not evidence, just unsupported allegations.

Having said that, there hasn't been a war in history where some local women haven't been raped or forced into prostitution, so this may be a fake, but I don't doubt such things have happened.

Remember the rapes occuring around our bases in Japan? We're not even at war with them any more.
