2. Download it here
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/3223354.stm

You can opt in or out of British news, sport, travel etc.

3. The real news junkie goes RSS...
try this:

http://www.disobey.com/amphetadesk/

hundreds of news channels

I got to the point I just can't handle it all all and hardly ever turn it on.

btw, Opera can be set up to have the news organization of your choice feed into a window on the side.

4. If you have a web site
and need a ticker, go to this thread:

bpilgrim and the gang at Global Free Press made a nice flash-based ticker. It seems designed to be placed on web sites, but not desktops. Looks great, and even includes headlines from DU, as well as Google, Yahoo and BBC.

I put it on my sports message board and it looks pretty sharp.

6. NOTE - Read the troubleshooter BEFORE you download
.
.
.

I have Windows 98

and under Win98

"Newsline keeps trying to launch INTERNET EXPLORER 3/4 instead of Netscape when accessing the Internet and if IE3/4 is not installed it will not launch Netscape instead."

"To access the full news stories when you click on the headline Newsline needs to access the internet. Unfortunately the current release of Newsline will only do this via Internet Explorer. This is something that will hopefully be remedied in the not-too-distant future."

I use Mozilla

oh well
