Lehrer show shamelfully edits testimony to make Rice look strong
sickening.....showing her comebacks to Ben-Veniste, Kerrey, Gorelick, WITHOUT showing their responses

just appalling

as bad as anything I've seen on Fox

4. it's over here.....can you give me a summary?
thx

Kean, when asked if he believed Rice that it was structural, rather than people/performance problem, said it was both

Hamilton is sorting it out, BUT is wondering about "spiking of threats" during the summer!

says it's hard to weigh threat priority, given all the different threats flying about.....says there WERE an awful lot of threats out there, though.

then, he excuses Rice by mentioning the lack of threat specificity

yeah, they didn't say what clothest the highjackers would be wearing, or whether they'd be mostly dressed left or right

what a joke

14. Admittedly, CBS did a good job
I saw their report on Condosleaza's testimony, and I have to admit they did a good job on her.

2. now they have 'Shearson-Lehman and Iran/Contra Hamilton on
Hamilton is barely breathing

no WONDER they unearthed him

he was one of the chief reasons Reagan/Bush skated back in 87

both he and Kean are echoing Rice's BS about structural problems, giving her a pass on it, basically

3. i didn't see the piece, but
as someone who works in television, i can tell you it probably wasn't intentional... these pieces usually run a minute thirty to 2 minutes, and there's not much time to leave in the uh's, the stutters, the back and forth, and so forth. we just pick the sound bites we want and edit them in.

again, i didn't see it, but it most likely wasn't intentional or something laced with an agenda, especially on pbs.

6. nice try, but I work in a TV studio......I KNOW how to edit
they did it on PURPOSE

they did quick cuts as soon as she made her point

I saw the responses ON OTHER SHOWS that completely changed the context of her answers, and made her look MUCH worse than she did on PBS

it was very definitely on purpose

Petroleum Broadcast System is VERY much in the tank for the pugs

I've seen more than enough to know that

there are VERY few exceptions, including NOW, the occasional POV, Frontline, the odd special, but THAT's it!

everything else is business this, wingnut that, especially on Lehrer

it's appalling.

Even Mark Shields lets David Brooks get away, usually, with the most egregious distortions, only able to counter the most outlandish lies, cause he wouldn't have any time to say anything himself if all he did was point out what a jackwad liar Brooks is

but, yeah, PBS has no agenda

right

also, what about PBS?

does anybody in their right mind think they have anything but a corporate agenda, with the exceptions I mention

and, speaking of non-agendas, mr. newsguy, know who the head of NPR is?

no googling, pls

12. depends on what clip was being shown
some clips were edited to make her look better, others, giving more context to responses to her disingenuous answers.

a couple clips showed the audience APPLAUDING B-V's asking her to ANSWER THE QUESTION

that was interesting

PBS' sorry showing reminded me of what ABC did to Clarke the day of his testimony.....showing questions by Lehman (you've got a credibility problem...no response from Clarke allowed), fatso Thompson (when were you telling the truth....no answer allowed).

then tons of WH BS about his credibility, venality, book timing, etc., igoring whether what he SAID was true.

this carried on to that evening's Nightline, where they spent TWO THIRDS of the show attacking him, using similar tactics....lots of unsourced innuendo, that sort of thing]

disgraceful

that SAID, apparently Clarke is going to be on Nightline tonight, commenting on the day's events

THAT should be interesting

wonder who the pugshills will be

11. the most dishonest editing I ever saw was on PBS
on "Washington Week", they chopped off the second half of both John Edwards's and John Kerry's sentences in the same way. This was after Greenspan made that statement about cutting Social Security benefits. This program, and every other whore on TV, completely avoided saying one word about the role of Bush's tax cuts. Since the candidates DID mention the tax cuts, they had to chop off that part of their sentences.

17. I have a very simple, foolproof method for detecting BS on PBS
If the piece features Gwen Ifill in any way, shape or form (see especially, though not exclusively, her "Washington Whores on Review"), it's sure to be unadulterated Bush boot-licking.
Ifill is the worst I've ever seen on PBS, period. Bring back Michelle Martin -- at least she attempted to be a real journalist. Ifill is just about useless.
John
And I stopped donating to PBS when they replaced Louis Rukeyser with that -- thing -- called "Wall Street Week with Fortune." Rukeyser was an honest-to-God analyst -- those two clowns on WSWw/F are just cheerleaders. But when programming is mostly underwritten by such corporate benefactors as Archer Daniels Midland and, at least around here, Dow Chemical, you come to expect the slant.
