Please wake me and tell me that I did not hear Powell say
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 07:06 PM by keithyboy
when talking about the "insurgents" to a TV pundit: "You have to remember what they want. They want despotism, they want dictatorship." Please tell me I mis-heard this utterly stupid, arrogant, and disengenuous statement. I can't believe that this administration really believes what they say. I think they are all just like Rush Limbaugh who doesn't really believe half the stupid crap he says but realizes that the majority of Americans are racist, biggoted, hateful, and stupid enough to believe the ridiculous things he says. For a person of Powell's stature to say this stuff (they are all saying it so no doubt it is a Bush admin 'talking point')is really embarrassing. Did anyone else hear it or is it just me.

3. don't be so mad
they have saying with fox beating the drums , that the "insurgents" don't want democracy to settle in Irak , remember all the concepts used since then, die hard, remnants of sadam, terrorists from foreign countries, (i wonder who is foreigners), now the terminology evolved to thug, terrorists yet, radical shiites, iranian, you will notice that they no longer talk about bringing democracy , nada nad,

don't be too though on them, they have to keep going otherwise if they tell the true, you know where they will end up and even that I am not sure giving the state of political surrealism and conditionment of the masses,
\all the best

4. of course they don't believe it
they're a very sophisticated{excluding bush} crew -- and they are feeding the public what the public wants to hear.
however -- the ball may have left the pitcher's hand regarding iraq.
the american people don't really care if the admin or any admin is corrupt as long as they are corrupt on the side of the people{or at least don't inconvenience them}.
the people are starting to smell some thing bad and that means it ain't good for them.

Yes, I've been saying that for a while now, though not as cleverly as you, xchrom. The BFEE has lost control of Iraq. They are only responding to events.

5. He might believe it
I was talking a bit ago with a colleague about our bombing Falluja hours after we declared a cease fire today. My normally very liberal colleague replied that "we" have to stop the insurgents or the majority Shiites will form an Islamic Republic (AKA dictatorship) and that's just not right. All rejoinders explaining what's not right with Bushcos. Iraq "strategy" feel on deaf ears.
