Is it better to live in a liberal town with like-minded people or
is it better to live in a conservative town where one has the opportunity to influence those who don't think like you do?

I happen to think it's better to be around people who think like you.

1. Depends on your personality
I don't have the patience to educate politically-ignorant dumbasses everyday, which is why I stick around my hometown (which has its share of other kinds of dumbasses).

6. Texas
Gosh, there are only a couple of places in Texas to live.
I should know, I grew up there.

I always liked Nacogdoches. Cool college town right in the
middle of all kinds of weird right wingers. Japer, Texas
is not too far down the road. But Nacogdoches is cool.

I've lived mostly in New Mexico - many years now - but
we see folks from Austin here all the time. The coolest
Texans, no doubt about it.

4. It's more of a challenge living in a predominantly conservative town...
But living in an OVERWHELMINGLY rock-ribbed conservative town can be depressing at times. Thank goodness I now live in the former as opposed to the latter; here, at least, there's a sizeable plurality of people who think as we do; that helps on the days when you've seen one too many of those "Bush/Cheney '04" stickers on--wouldn't ya know it--a giant gas-guzzling SUV! :eyes:

B-)

5. Living in South was driving me insane... much happier now
I think it's one of those personality things. I definitely was not suited for that environment at all.

Much happier in the Pacific Northwest.

15. I could have written that!
Only difference is that I lived in SF for 20 years before that.

7. At the risk of generalizing, it is tough in the South...
...I thought living in a college town (Gainesville) would make a difference, but there the conservatives seem more strident (and I am too old to be mistaken for a student)...I envy the DUers I see posting from San Francisco or the Pacific Northwest. As a kid, I lived briefly in Ukiah, CA and would love to go back someday. For now, Orlando pays the bills (no state income tax...but Jeb still ran on a platform of tax cuts)

60s an 70s. Haven't you heard a good percentage of young people have gone ape. They are as monkey supporting as those driving SUV's. If not that then they are Naderites too scared to really challenge Bush and his monkey minions. Yes too scared. They don't want to rock the boat of those around them. They are happy just being thought of as loony lefties going nowhere.
Mini Skit on a college campus:
Naderite leftie:
"We are not a threat to you mister Repug, only our Dem allies they are not perfect enough for us please don't hit us." "So what if Nader says the our Great Monkey president should be impeached- who listens to Nader. he he"
Mr Repug:
"Your right you stupid punk Fa...t, Here is five dollars, but make sure Nader talks bad about Kerry."

Why do you think Repugs give to Nader and more Dems report a falling out with friends or family over politics than those who say they support Nader.

Down with Lancelot Link in 04.

12. Good point
I admit it,
I see thing as an old man nowadays,
principally because I AM one. LOL.

You're right, though, the "Youth" are pro-Bush, even in my beloved
Nacogdoches. (Note: I can't prove this but I will bet $100 on it.)

Why this is, is a mystery to me.

What do the youth see in Bush? He's fucked up every single damn
thing he has touched. (Name some exceptions, if you dare.)

Still, there ARE some good towns in Texas and some bad ones.

13. Wait till he brings back the draft after he is re-elected. I got to say
it will be fun to watch these punks after that happens. I came of age in the 80s. I will have to say that in looking at films of how young people in the 60s thought compared with those of today. Kids in the 60s seem smarter. College DUers you can help persuade some of your thicker skull class mates to vote Dem by claiming that Bush will bring back the draft. They know that we are losing men in Iraq this tragedy will make it easier to convince many of them.

14. No!! Live with like minded people
I have been able to change the mind of zero repukes. It was not
fun living in College Station, Texas (home of the bush library, Phil Gramm, Rick Perry, Clayton Williams, Lowry Mayes (owner of Clear Channel), this list keeps going and going). I got my degree and got the hell out. The Democratic party at that university was a joke. Maybe things have changed, but I wouldn't recommend any Democrat go to Texas A&M. Thats my experience.

16. I think its more fun to try and work for change.
Most conservatives I know are good people that have been sold a horrible ideology by some awful, evil people. They need plenty of positive role models.
