Bush administration = lame duck?
The August 6 Presidential Daily Briefing (PDB), the maps of Iraqi oilfields from the Cheney Energy Task Force papers, Condoleezza Rice's disputable testimony and the line of Bush I and II critics will effectively kill any hope of Bush winning the 2004 election. Just what will they run on if not some message trumpeting Bush's war on terror? They certainly cannot run on simple sloganeering and a thundering economic recovery.

This being said, I am suspicious that the forementioned recent revelations place the Bush administration in "lame duck" status. You may have read articles by people such as Robert Reich and Eric Alterman pronouncing how horrible a second, and truly "lame duck", Bush administration would be. That is what I believe we could be seeing here. This is a very dangerous situation.

Members of the 9-11 Commission have thrown down the gauntlet. The Jersey Girls with their powerful momentum know what time it is with the Bush administration. Economic issues aside, for Bush, the situation looks depserate.

Desperate men do desperate things and stupid men do stupid things. Need I say more?

2. Could you elaborate on this one?
the maps of Iraqi oilfields from the Cheney Energy Task Force papers

somehow I missed what this is referring to. Is there more info you could point me to? I would really appreciate it.

As to your overall point I totally agree - they will only be restrained as long as they actually believe they have a chance to "win" the election.

CHENEY ENERGY TASK FORCE DOCUMENTS FEATURE MAP OF IRAQI OILFIELDS

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, said today that documents turned over by the Commerce Department, under court order as a result of Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit concerning the activities of the Cheney Energy Task Force, contain a map of Iraqi oilfields, pipelines, refineries and terminals, as well as 2 charts detailing Iraqi oil and gas projects, and “Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts.” The documents, which are dated March 2001, are available on the Internet at: www.JudicialWatch.org.

The Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) documents likewise feature a map of each country’s oilfields, pipelines, refineries and tanker terminals. There are supporting charts with details of the major oil and gas development projects in each country that provide information on the projects, costs, capacity, oil company and status or completion date.
