Anyone know why Dixville Notch opens their polls at midnight during New Hampshire's primary? I know its a long-withstanding tradition, however is there an explanation, historical or otherwise?
Thanks!

...and all the men at least used to vote going on shift at midnight.
Once a town can prove that all voters have in fact voted, they can close the polls, and NH doesn't have walk-up or same day registration.
Or so I've heard.
Hart's Location, another tiny NH town, also votes early.
