The reason the PDB released today
Just figured out the reason for an Easter-eve release of the PDB - the Newsweek Poll showing Kerry beating Bush 50% - 43%. They had to do ANYTHING to get media focus off that poll.

Also, did anyone else hear that this was just "portions" of the PDB? That's what the reporter said on ABC. Also, I'm beginning to think that the PDB wasn't the big deal. There was other intelligence that came later that needs to be looked into - the intel that got Asscroft and others off of commercial flights. If there's a smoking gun, that's where you will find it.

4. What's the big deal?
During Thursday's committee hearings, Democrats demanded that the Bush administration release the PDB. They have released some of it, and are in the process of releasing the rest. So what's the problem?

6. Why are you defending them?
And from where exactly do you get the idea that they are ever going release the rest?

8. I'm not defending them
I'm not defending them. I'm just stating the facts: Democrats wanted the PDB released, and they are in the process of releasing it.

People should be happy about that.

10. Soon as possible
Today was as soon as possible, I suppose. They seem confident that there nothing in it, otherwise they wouldn't have released the thing so soon.

This White House only responds to huge public pressure about their hiding stuff, which makes them look really bad while they continue with their many cover-ups.

12. Democrats?? Schroman, the 9/11 Commission UNANIMOUSLY...
... requested that the August 6, 2001 PDB be released. Democrats and Republicans alike requested that memo. Unanimously.

You can try to spin the investigation into the murder of 3,000 innocent people in one goddamned morning as "partisanship" all you want, but you might want to get your facts straight first. You're going to run up against some real 9/11 students around here, and I think you need to brush up a bit.

15. Calm down
"We would be very happy to have declassified at this time, including its title." -9/11 commission member Richard Ben-Veniste

I know that the commission as a whole asked for the PDB to be declassified. But it was the Democrats (not neccessarily the ones on the committee) who demanded that it be declassified. And they're right; if Bush has nothing to hide, then there shouldn't be any problem declassifying it.

16. Don't tell me to calm down, because I'm not going to.
And by your own faulty logic, you're assuming the Democrats can push your Dear Leader around these days.

Either way, it doesn't shake out too good for you.

18. In other words...
So if Bush refuses your demands, than he must be covering something up, and if he accedes, then he's being pushed around. That right?

Make up your mind.

28. Basic Problem with that
So, again, let me get this straight: We didn't do enough before 9-11 to fight terrorism, but now we are doing to much to fight terrorism (PATRIOT Act, Iraq War, etc.).

So you're saying that we should have done more before 9-11....and less afterwards?

wow

35. That's not nice
You guys/girls sure do seem to have a probelm holding civil discussions. I never called you any names. But it has been... enlightening... to see your reactions after only one hour.

Of course, I'm expecting to be thrown out of this site sometime soon (actually surprised it hasn't happened yet). So it's been fun, folks.

I have to ask though, before you ignore my right to free speech and toss me out of here: If you folks have this sort of a repsonse to me...how do you go through your daily lives? You do know that about half of this country disagrees with you. Do you treat all of them the same way?

ON EDIT: I notice that you're gone now, but hopefully you realize that you still retain your read-only privileges. :-)

The free-speech assumption on a privately-run message board is just, well, pretty laughable. And, half of the country disagrees with us, eh? Again, you might want to research your numbers before posting them here for us all to shit upon. You're just making it too easy.

In a new Newsweek poll, Kerry moves ahead of George Bush as Americans grown increasingly concerned about the war in Iraq

Meanwhile, just 36 percent of those polled say they are satisfied with "the way things are going in this country." More than half (59 percent) say they are dissatisfied. And while President George W. Bush’s job approval rating remains steady at 49 percent, where it has been since the end of January, the president's favorability ratings are lower than they’ve ever been. Forty-eight percent of those polled view Bush favorably, down four points over last month. Kerry’s ratings remain unchanged at 51 percent favorable.

Most of what we're saying is flying over your rather vacant head, and as I'm growing bored and running out of troll food, that's really all I have to say about that.

14. The PDB was released because the whole damned media had it...
... already. The AP reports from "sources familiar with the August 6 PDB" were flying fast and furious Friday evening, and it was looking more and more like the Washington Post and the New York Times would have been able to faithfully reconstruct it in the Sunday morning editions.

The White House had to try to get out ahead of the story, so they went ahead and released it. Believe me, nobody around the White House, or in Crawford, rather, is happy about this development.

...only because they were FORCED to release the PDB. They attempted to slow crawl the release over three weeks to diffuse the impact, but someone FORCED their hand.

Anyone who beleives that the bush* White House gladly released this PDB is a damned fool!

This is just the beginning. It raises plenty of damning questions that will beg more information, either from the Administration or the Commission.
