Will CNN's ratings turn around if Kerry wins? |
|
Drudge just posted the ratings for the cable news outlets for the Bush speech:
FOX NEWS Tripled CNN's viewership for Bush's Press Conference, According to NIELSEN:
FOX NEWS: 5,156,000 viewers CNN: 1,760,000 viewers MSNBC: 867,000 viewers
Looks like the GOPers tuned in to see their leader in big numbers. Will Fox's numbers drop and CNN's rise when Kerry is elected? That's my first thought, but then again right-wing radio did fine with Big Dog was in office. I hope so. I know some of you hate CNN as much as any other outlet, but I hope they turn it around soon. They deserve much better ratings than the garbage Fox News airs.

2. Don't feel sorry for CNN. During the day they have more "unique" |
|
viewers than FAUX. However, FAUX viewers are watching their state-run TV for longer periods of time. Also, ad space on CNN costs more because they appeal to a "wealthier" clientele.

3. CNN is my fave news outlet |
|
I think cause I am just comfortable with them. I really like Anderson Cooper and Aaron Brown. And of course my girl in the morning, Soledad O'Brien. I also like Carlos Watson.
Faux News is like shock and awe TV. Their hosts are so cartoonish I just can't watch them.
I also hope CNN's ratings improve.
Question: Are those ratings for cable considered good. You figure 7 million watched just on those three channels alone. I wonder how many watched on the networks or on some other station.

4. Their numbers will rise as they rediscover investigative journalism while |
|
engaging in fishing expeditions against the Kerry administration.
Judy Woodruff and Candy (Haagen-Dass) Crowley will be on special assignment.

should be sent to IRaq for some REAL investigating reporting, for at least a five year period.

6. Dept. of Defense will only let FOX be viewed |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 07:14 PM by Tolania
Edit: rest of message didn't show up
DoD will only allow FOX to be viewed on military bases. (Except, of course, in homes. They don't have THAT much control).

8. i think fox's would pick up |
|
If they can bitch about Kerry all day, that would be great for them. Remember how happy they were to slap around Clinton all day?

9. Right now broadcasters don't need good rating to make money. |
|
They make money by getting their tax burdens reduced and by getting monopolies.
I hope that when Kerry becomes president, that won't be the case anymore. They'll have to start giving the public what they want, which means they'll have to start getting decent ratings, if they don't want to go off the air and be replaced with something worth watching.
So, yes. CNN's ratings will probably go up in 2005 because a Democrat will provide an environment in which you have to be competitive to make money. Which will be a bing change from what's going on today.

10. CNN is a bitter disappointment to me. |
|
I agree Alpharetta that CNN is chasing fox's audience. That’s why CNN is no longer my first choice for news and MSNBC is.

11. CNN's ratings will NEVER go back up.. |
|
They "sold out" when they let their "real" newspeople go. When they added the glitz and noise.. In other words, when they decided to be Faux-Lite, they lost..
The only way they could revive their standing, would be to try to recapture what CNN WAS.. It was real news.. Nothing fancy, no loud bumper music, no flashing graphics.. It was real news..as it was happening.. from all over the world.. I liked the fact that late at night , I could tune in and catch the international anchors and get the "rest of the world's" perspective.. Now we get snippets on the weekend, but that's it..
Ted Turned could probably save it, but CNN is so much more entangled now..
He would have to own it outright again..and I don't think he has the energy or money anymore..
