21. I can't watch Bob Roberts again...
I saw it when it first came out. Brilliant- in fact, so brilliant that it elicited genuine anger and disgust from me. For nearly a year, I couldn't look at Tim Robbins without differentiating between the actor and the character.

But now, I don't think I could bear to watch it in our current political climate. I was disgusted with the film in '92. I might be capable of violence against my television in '04.

I'll stick with other titles in the Robbins collection. "Cradle Will Rock" is highly underrated.

Um, wait... we were talking about Gore Vidal, right?

25. Yeah - Gore Vidal played the incumbent Tim Robbins' character ran against
and he had some VERY memorable lines.

9. OMG! I love "Kalki".
I've never known anyone but me that has ever read it. (I also liked "Live From Golgotha", but "Kalki" is my fave.)

If anyone else is interested and you either live in the tri-state area (NJ-NY-CONN) or want to listen on the 'net, Gore Vidal is going to be on WBAI 99.5FM (or www.wbai.org) this coming Sunday morning at 11:00 AM EDT.

15. I Have A Signed First Edition, Kool Kitty.
I imposed on poor Gore at the LA Book Festival where he was signing. He signed my Kalki (which is one of his best, yet overlooked, in my opinion). He also signed my Myra Breckenridge and Myron first editions.

16. Oh, how cool is that?
(I think this book is terribly overlooked, too. I always thought it would make a good film, given the right director and stars.) I'm jealous! ;-)

18. Mick Jagger
Jagger was once casts to be Kalki and I'm with you. I loved that book, the lesbian pilots, the dinner at the White House and Maxim's.

It truly was Gore at his best.

You are one of the only people I've ever heard rave about it. So we will always have Kalki, Kool Kitty.

19. And don't forget "Frida"!
Jagger would have been good as Kalki, I think. This is one of the only books that I re-read at least once a year.

17. Quit making me feel old....
I read Myra, Myron and Kalki in the 60's and early Seventies. I blame Vidal and Vonnegut for turning me into an "honorable mention" DU dummy.

7. Vidal fans all have their favorites...
...the guys been creating since the end of World War II...the favorites that immediately come to my mind are his historical fictions of Burr and Lincoln and a superior science fiction novel called Smithsonian Institution.

14. I consider Gore Vidal our greatest living writer. His elegant prose
and his ability to see through our rulers make him an invaluable
resource to all of us at DU.When you read the labored writings of rightwing hacks and compare it with Gore Vidal's elegant and clear writing, you are seeing the living proof of Orwell's dictum that the corruption of a political system starts with the corruption of
language. We are fortunate to have Vidal on our side.Wish William Shirer was also alive to dissect the diseased state of our system.
These two men are my favorites.
