Did Bush know immediately on 9-11 that it was Al Qaida?
This part of Bush's speech has been bothering me all day. He caught himself after he said he was angry "on that day" at Al Qaida. Then he pointedly corrected himself to make sure it didn't look like he knew immediately.

"I didn't see -- I mean, I didn't have that great sense of outrage that I felt on September the 11th. I was -- on that day, I was angry and sad. Angry that al-Qaida -- I thought at the time al-Qaida, found out shortly thereafter it was al-Qaida -- had unleashed this attack. Sad for those who lost their life."

What do you think?

Also, did he really look angry or sad at all that day?

2. Like I said last night. . . .
if he thought it was al Qaida why was his first comment to Clarke about Iraq?

3. Of course he knew. But, they weren't called al Quaida then.
They were just a bunch of Patsies. bin Laden is actually the son of Lee Harvey "Patsy" Oswald.

5. Well..
When he emerged from his flying all over the country looking for a safe place to HIDE he looked as um... vacant as he always does. It's a shame I missed the speech, I'm suprised Al Franken didn't mention that slip of the tongue today on the O'Franken factor....

Take a look in the archives at the 9/11 threads. Quite a few people on there said Al-Queda almost immediately.

Yes, I would defend your right of free speech. But not on DU, not today. You see, you are absolutely wrong. B*sh was complicit in what occured that day. The facts are slowly coming out and since you have never read them, how would you know? So, we forgive you for being ignorant, but that doesn't mean we have to sit here and read about it. Goodbye.

28. hey look... we hit the TRIFECTA!`

"I remember -- I remember campaigning in Chicago, and one of the reporters said, would you ever deficit spend? I said only -- only in times of war, in times of economic insecurity as a result of a recession, or in times of national emergency. Never did I dream we'd have a trifecta. (Laughter.)"

18. Iraq had nothing to do with what happened on
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 08:30 PM by Kool Kitty
September 11, 2001, but then a wise one like you would know that, right? And outraged one, 2137 died in the September 11 attacks. Not 4000. Any number of people is an outrage, I agree. But since you are so OUTRAGED, I thought perhaps you should STICK TO THE FACTS. And, for heaven's sake, use the spell check.

16. His situation room chief says yes.
A female navy officer running his traveling situation room that day said that they all knew it was an ATTACK before they entered the school.

23. Another thing about Bush's Booker performance.
When Bush sat there for 20 minutes after Card whispered in his ear, how could he not be certain that there weren't another dozen plane-bombs flying? He would have had no information to tell him otherwise, so why wouldn't he have immediately assumed things were far, far worse...particularly in light of the warnings we now know he had in the 8/6 memo.

He should have been immediately on his feet and asking how bad the ongoing attack was....but he sat for 20 minutes. Only someone who knew what the plan was, could sit there and play out the script.

25. WHAT! I hadn't heard this. Do you have a link to this?
I'd greatly appreciate it if you did.

If they KNEW it was an ATTACK before they entered the school that morning WHY did they allow Bush to STAY in a fully disclosed location all that time?

30. Nowhere on that page do I see
Bush's situation room chief quoted as saying "yes"--they all knew it was an ATTACK before they entered the school.

If there is a link to such a statement, I would very much like to have it.

20. I'm not claiming to be a genius or anything like that
but as I watched on the televison when the first tower fell, I knew it was Bin Laden. Made perfect sense to me after the embassies in Africa and the Cole.

And for our freeper friend in the above post, hope you enjoyed your very short stay at DU. Go back to whatever hole you crawled out of.

24. Why would bin Laden make perfect sense after
the Cole attack and embassy bombings?

Cole attack-- small boat comes up to a military vessel, the USS Cole, in Arab port, and sets off an explosion that makes a big hole in the ship.

Embassy attacks-- Two simultaneous attacks with bombs aimed at US government employees in third world countries

WTC-- No bombs, civilians were main victims, attacks occurred in the US, with no attempt to stop them until it was too late.

Just how do all these attacks point to "bin Laden"?

27. Yes, that is precisely what the government wants us to think
The media had been telling us for years that bin Laden or one of his cohorts was going to attack America. So, when it happened, and the FBI and other government officials confirmed this, we were quite willing to accept this as an accurate description of what happened.

Personally, I'd like to see some evidence that a) America was, in fact, ATTACKED on 9/11 and b) that it was, indeed, Muslim fundamentalists who attacked us and not covert agents masquerading as such.
