Woo hoo! Finally had a LTTE published!
in the Orlando Slantinel of all places. A little background - there was an editorial on how a local gentleman was arranging for donations of various necessities to send to our troops overseas. Well...

Bake Sales for Soldiers?
I was saddened to read David Porter's editorial "Reel deal for soldiers" recently. It is truly a shame that our soldiers cannot get the equipment necessary to protect them from harm, and that we have an entire editorial sharing an effort to collect basic necessities for our fighting troops overseas. What has happened to this country that a $500 billion dollar defense budget, our taxpayer dollars, is not sufficient that we as civilians must donate additional money and items? Why are we as Americans not outraged that this is happening? And why are our senators and representatives not backing up their claims of supporting our troops by really supporting our troops?
Today we have private citizens taking up collections to send our soldiers personal body armor, steel plating for vehicles, and now basic items like sunglasses. At the same time our government is reducing their hazard pay, cutting health benefits for veterans, and failing to inform them of the benefits they are eligible for, while at the same time continuing to pay Ahmed Chalabi, a wanted felon convicted of bank fraud, over $4 million dollars a year for the false information that has placed our troops in harms way in the first place.
I hope that the American people wake up and realize who the true patriots are before it is too late.

3. A thing of beauty is a joy forever....that was a fine letter.
I wonder when a monosyllabic rebuttal will be published, which either skewers you personally or mis-characterizes the points you make. That's a pretty common tactic for con.s editorial staffs.

But at least they published it, and it makes its case in ways that the literate and/or scrupulous con.'s would have trouble opposing.

:)

4. Excellent!
What really pisses me off is our paying Joe Blow from a dairy farm in Mississippi, $120,000 a year via Halliburton, to drive a fuel truck for the military. If this is an example of what it's costing us to privatize our military, it's no wonder we can't afford the basics for our troops.
