An Israeli helicopter gunship has fired a missile on a crowd of people during a raid on a Gaza refugee camp wounding at least 11 Palestinians.

The helicopters backed up by a force of occupation troops in about 40 Israeli tanks raiding the area for alleged weapons smuggling tunnels in Rafah.

The occupation army claims the missile hit an open field in an attempt to move a group of Palestinian resistance fighters away from Israeli troops.

Troops have carried out frequent raids in Rafah during a more than three-year Palestinian Intifida (uprising) against Israeli occupation. Scores of homes have been demolished in the camp under the guise of uncovering and destroying arms smuggling conduits.
