not because the economy is booming for average Americans.

My case is reflective of the problem.

Unemployed 47 months,
BSEE
MBA
Commercial Pilot
Honorably discharged naval officer.

1,447 resumes out the door
Resume posted at 105 job boards
Friends and acquaintances over networked with no leads forthcoming

To date, I have not heard from a company or headhunter in over 2 years.

Those are the facts Jack and Bush has done nothing to get the economy going with the growth of solid middle class jobs. Instead Bush supports tax cuts for the ultra wealthy that do nothing and outsourcing that moves good American jobs overseas.

16. I know
I am one of them also. 22 months ago IBM sent my job to India, but hey, its great for America, whatever the fuck that means. Just because I am in my peak earning years and making nothing just makes me look forward to a marvelous retirement. Most of my network is fired also.

20. Me three
MCSE and scads of other computer certifications. Been out of the industry for two years. But I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm working a temp job and making about 60% of what I made before the layoff. Despite a resume that no less than two interviewers told me was impressive, I still am not employed full time.

But if I'm not middle class, it's all my fault and I'm just a deadbeat lazy bum living off the hard work of everyone else. So say the Republicans.

Good luck finding something. You and I will likely both be on our deathbeds before we can retire.

13. "Be all that you can be!" == DEAD
The public will eventually turn on the soldiers again, like they did in Viet-Nam.

The draft made it harder in the Viet-Nam era to accuse someone of going off to wantonly kill people.

Without the draft when the recession comes, the troops will get the blame and the NeoCons with all their money will sit on their private islands drinking Dom Perrignon.

6. I'm from a little Indiana Republican town, too
and we have lost 500 jobs since 2001 according to our local paper. We just had a factory shut down and 350 out of jobs this past February, my husband being one of them. Somehow, our union took the case to the Labor Relations Board and the company is to have a hearing on May 17th. If the company appeals the ruling, then it could go to the courts in Washington, D.C., with Preasident Bush appointing the judges!!!!!!!

My town continues to remain a great majority Republican and Independent. They like neither Bush or Kerry from the people I've heard speak. They favor Bush over Kerry, though. They say the 2 men are nearly the same and aren't in touch with the common person. I just touted Kerry's voting record (that I was aware of) to them and tried to show them the difference that way. Other than that, I couldn't make a big argument.

Indiana will never change. The only way they'll change is if they're pushed into a corner and shown the truth for what it is. Maybe then they wouldn't even be smart enough to see things.

Rush is predominant on radio around here and that's what people hear and so they believe it.

The factory workers who've lost their jobs are voting against Bush but many who aren't affected remain with their same views.

22. Used to live in one of those Indiana republican towns
My mother-in-law was county treasurer for years, she and f-i-l are lifelong republicans, active in local county GOP politics for at least the past 40 years. Dan Quayle's home district, if that gives you some idea.

They voted for * in 2000 because they are and always have been GOP, not out of any rational decision. Even so, they have already said they will NOT vote for him again, that he is a disaster, that he has done nothing good since the day he was shoehorned into office.

These are people who still think Reagan was a good (but not great) president and still think Kennedy was a crook.

But they hate *.

Tansy Gold, who does not miss Indiana at all, thankyouverymuch, even if Arizona has its own political shortcomings.

9. Wichita KS--mid size Republican town
Boeing is looking to sell its buidling here. They have gone from 15-20K employees to about 9K recently. And now they want to sell and move on out. I guess they ran out of tax rebates amd found someone to make planes at $1 a hour in some other country.

No fears though. Wichita (and KS) will still vote Repub. After all, there are things more important that jobs and money. (We'd hate to get a gay loving Dem in office.)

17. Hard to imagine Wichita without a
large Boeing presence. My dad went there to work for Boeing in 1942 and I can remember he and my step-mom taking me to the Bomber Club when I was about 4.
But Kansans like Hoosiers will vote Repub. I've said before that they can rename "Hoovers Orchard", Bush's Orchard.

27. Former Wichitan here

I now live in Everett, Washington. Fortunately I didnt come here to work for Boeing although my father did 9 years before I escaped the clutches of Kansas. I work for the local newspaper here in production and am lucky that my job hasnt been eliminated completely. The unemployment here is ridiculously high. Boeing, just like in Wichita, runs this county and most of the greater Seattle area. From what I gather it used to be worse. When the 'lazy b' had the enormous layoffs in the late 60's early 70's, they had billboards up that suggested the last person to leave, to shut off the lights. The economy has diversified since then with Microsoft and all of the coffee outlets. Every time Wichita has had the chance to diversify, the city 'leaders' have fucked it up. At one time, Wichita was not only the 'air capital of the world' but also the home of Pizza Hut, Coleman, Mentholatum, Lear Jet,Beechcraft, Cessna and many many more. They all left for greener pastures or were bought by huge corporations.

Get out while you still can!!!

This company - so important to our economy - is being led by complete idiots. There new plane, the 7E7, represents a pathetic level of innovation given their illustrious past.
Watch that bottom line Stonecipher, you myopic piece of shit.

They were told both that the plant made $30mm and that it had lost $18mm

Says to me that they've determined they could have made $48mm somewhere else, so they feal they lost out on 18.

26. Yeah, they're pretty strict.
Had to be, there were a lot of LBN stories getting posted with subject lines like "You won't fuckin' BELIEVE what the NYT said today!" and the like, so in comes the rule that the subject line HAS to be the link's headline.

Just check the rules for posting in LBN and you'll do great.

Companies cut costs wherever it's feasible. As long as it's cheaper to produce goods in other countries for less, there's no point in fighting it. Thank Thailand and Mexico et. al. for their workers accepting a lower wage.

33. no nothing to do with the fact
that there are BENEFITS apart from cost savings to moving jobs off shore, and NO tax disincentives for doing so.

As for the workers in other countries HA! what do you expect them to say "well I'm starving and so are my kisd but I'll hold out for better wages so that I don't tempt a US compnay to come here thereby reducing the standard of living for those poor downtrodden Americans"

BTW when there ardly any jobs left in the US because everything has been outsourced who do you think is going to have the discretionary income to afford to spend - thereby reducing jobs even further?

Could you have thought any LESS about this issue pavetheplanet? and nice nic by the way - how do plan to breathe once we've done THAT

29. condolences to Bedford
but I've just about lost my sympathy for people who vote against their interests again and again.

I remember last year when I was down your way I saw a sign on the side of the road which said, "US out of UN."

maybe after enough republicans have children who get killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, maybe then they'll figure out they are just fodder for their rich masters.

I forget the exact number, but there was a post on this board last week about thousands of people from Indiana who are already in Iraq, and more people in the National Guard out of Indiana have just been called up...and who knows when they'll get back to the U.S. once they've been sent out (in this case, to Afghanistan.)

for the catastrophic mismanagement this lamebrain Bush has forced on our country. I have no doubt he will go down in the history books as the absolute all-time worst president ever. He has done so much harm on so many levels that it will take many years for good people to offset.
