President Jesse Ventura??
"Refreshed from a semester as a visiting professor at Harvard University, former pro wrestler and Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura says he's considering an independent run for the White House in 2008, although he acknowledges that being leader of the free world might be too confining for him.

"That's an issue with me. I love my freedom," Ventura said in an interview with The Associated Press at his office at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. "The part that would bug me is I wouldn't be able to get up in the night and drive to the 7-11 for a Slurpee, not without them blocking off the roads, welding the manhole covers shut, and everything else that goes along with it."

Ventura has not made a firm decision on a presidential run. He is weighing the concerns of his wife, Terry, who has told him she won't go with him if he wins the White House. His solution: move the White House to Minnesota.

"What would hold me back would be my family. The brutality of the campaign, the ruthlessness of the Democrats and Republicans," he said. "If it looks like I might win, there's no telling what they would do. They're very desperate people when it comes to third parties."

11. not necessarily
He pulled more from Humphrey than from Coleman in the gubernatorial election. Remember he is pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-transit and believes that Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones are the best rock bands in history. But he is just joking here. He will not run.

6. Oh No -- He's Too Late!
I've been hoping for this the last three years. Jesse V would easily keep Bush out the White House again. Too bad he seems to be slow on the uptake.

8. I thought Governor Groper was being groomed for Prez once
the get an ammendment changed so he can run. Maybe we should just put them both in a mud pit and see who emerges the victor.

9. Jesse Ventura is partly responsible for my political awakening
I read "Do I stand Alone" and I have been on a tear ever since.
Jesse has more truth flowing in his pinky than most Democrats have in their body(With few exceptions). I would welcome his return to public service with an open mind

10. I'm not comfortable with libertarian-type financial plans
but if he's open-minded on social issues, then that's a plus on his side.

16. Jesse says he's independent because ....
he is fiscally conservative but socially liberal. Actually, I don't think that's a bad combination, especially when you look at the military budget. If we're going to reduce the national debt, EVERYONE needs to tighten their purse strings.

20. You can't be fiscally conservative and socially liberal;
it's just not possible. How are you going to pay for the programs which help people if you aren't going to tax those who can afford it?? Jesse left my state in a state of total disrepair, with a huge budget deficit. Social programs have now been slashed, as of course repukes always go after the most vulnerable and needy in any society. EVERYBODY is NOT tightening their purse strings. The rich are richer than ever, the poor are suffering, and the middle class is collapsing, all because of 'fiscal conversatives', who aren't socially liberal, by the way.

What does 'socially liberal' mean to these people? Telling the poor to pull themselves up? Telling kids to eat better? Telling teachers to teach smarter? If you can't put your money where your mouth is, you are not liberal.

21. I think they mean
Go ahead and marry your gay partner or go ahead and take drugs kind of liberalism, not the social welfare programs.

12. What Nader is doing to the Dems,
Ventura would do for the Repugs: split the vote. This is just a vanity run by a monumental ego, but it might be good for us if it takes votes away from *. On the other hand, we don't want our shallow press to be distracted by more style over substance. They (and We) have enough problems as it is.

14. Not at all. Ventura would help the GOP. He'd probably do well
in electoral rich areas that democrats need. Such as Minnesota, and California. Look at Pataki/Golisano/McCall in New York. Golisano was the same party, Independence, as Ventura. And Pataki walked away with it in a democratic state, beating both others by almost 2-1 each.

Ventura is pro:-gay marriage, drug and prostitution decriminalization or reduction of penalties, and he's anti-Iraq war.

He's stylistically liberal and style is what matters to undecided voters.

18. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Nader's bad enough...
Anybody who's lived in Minnesota knows what a crock of constipated cattle cack Ventura's policies are.

Everything he does revolves around him.

I also liked him before he got scolded for using his right to free speech to talk to Playboy. After that, he stopped being himself and mooched off the role of governor for personal gain countless times over.

Oh, he also looked the other way when Pawlenty, et al, helped sign 4 years of tax cuts that gave us the 2003 $4 billion deficit.

Ventura's as scummy as the rest of them. Probably worse, he'll say both candidates are hamming up politics and he'll make a change. Sorry Ventura, we've seen your song and dance. You are a phony.)

19. Oh, please no
The guy is a huge narcissist. I couldn't stand him as governor of my state - if he was president I'd leave the country.

EVERYTHING is about him. As just one example, some single mothers went to one of his 'press conferences' and asked why he was cutting their funding for higher education. At first, old stonehead thought they were praising him and started talking about how great his education plan was. Then, when he realized that they were criticizing him, he attacked them!

Yes, the governor of Minnesota verbally attacked these women, asking why they were single mothers in the first place, instead of debating his stupid policy.

He's a creep and a baby and, like bush, doesn't take responsibility for his own actions.
