VERY classy understatement by Kerry today, IMO.....

I apologize for not remembering what article or recent campaign account I read this from today, I've scanned through many of them. What particularly stuck in my mind, though, is something Kerry said concerning the Iraq war and the current policies being pursued. He said (roughly) that turning the situation around "may require a new President in November."

I thought that was just a nice change from the heavy-duty rhetoric that you tend to hear from candidates. What I wrote above is not an exact quote, even though I used quotation marks...

1. "VERY classy understatement by Kerry"
The guy IS a class act, so is his lovely wife....
no down home folksiness here. They are polished,
poised and comfortable dealing with complex issues
in a detailed fashion.

I can't wait to have them in the WH so I can quit
being embarrassed by AWOL the ignoramus and his
cowboy mentality.

2. Man, think about..

...having someone in the White House who can think. Sounds nice. People are going to have to warm up to Kerry a little, though, imo. I've heard he's going to be coming out with some commercials soon, so hopefully that will happen.

4. It'll take a little while to get used to, but it'll sure be nice
not to have to fumble for the remote to turn on the news in the morning in order to see what else has gone wrong overnight.

6. I saw him on c span
today. He was great . There with Hilary, at a college campus. Very poised and togather. Made me wonder how the country could have made such a HUGE mistake on this miserable failure!

Kerry Says Bush's Stubbornness Hurts Troops
Policy in Iraq 'Costing Us Money And . . . Lives'
By Dan Balz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, April 15, 2004; Page A02

NEW YORK, April 14 -- Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.) said here Wednesday that President Bush's stubbornness in refusing to share authority and decision making with the United Nations and other countries has put U.S. forces at greater risk, unduly burdened American taxpayers and made success in Iraq far more difficult.

~snip~

During a town hall meeting at City College, Kerry was confronted by Walter Daum, a retired mathematics teacher at the college, who said the United States should withdraw immediately, angrily accusing Kerry of backing an imperialist war and of having the same policy as the president.

Kerry took issue with that characterization, but said the United States could not cut and run. "I have consistently been critical of how we got where we are, but we are where we are, sir," he said, "and it would be unwise beyond belief for the United States of America to leave a failed Iraq in its wake."

Kerry said that "it may take a new president" to bring about the policy changes that he said are necessary to assure success and reduce the risk to U.S. forces in Iraq and said if he were president now he would be deeply engaged with other foreign leaders to spread the burden and the risk. He noted that the president had said he is counting on the help of U.N. special representative Lakhdar Brahimi to help arrange the terms of the transfer of power to the Iraqi people June 30 but said there is still a fundamental difference between Bush's approach and his own.

"Why doesn't the president just come out and say I want the U.N. to be a full partner and the resolution that we pass will turn the authority over to them?" he asked. "That's the argument right now -- whether or not we're prepared to turn the authority over to them or whether or not they're prepared to come in without the authority. That's the fight and the question is why the president won't do that."

8. He is classy, but not enough people know it
Kerry better start that media campaign to define himself. People think he's a boring old dinosaur who's been a Washington insider for too long.

They need to see the real Kerry before Rove's image of him gets ingrained into their minds.

They did that against Gore and it worked. People actually thought he was stiff and boring, when actually he was a gentleman who stayed above the dirty bullshit in political campaigns. He's kick-ass speaker too, very animated and a great debator.
