"Everybody thought Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.."
This is used by the Bush regime to validate the illegal invasion of Iraq. France and Germany thought Saddam had WMDs. Great Britain thought he had them. Even Bill Clinton thought he had them. Why? Where did they get the information to make them believe such a thing? Did they all get their information from the same source? The CIA?

Regardless, no matter if they all thought Saddam might have WMDs, none thought there was sufficient proof to invade Iraq - until George Bush decided it was enough proof for him. Much like the person that drops a quarter on the street of NY during rush hour, and peoples heads turn for half a block. They hear what they want to hear and George W Bush heard what he wanted to hear...

1. And the Security Counsel approved of the resolution
But what they fail to admit is that the SC approved of the resolution based of false and forged information.

2. Saddam probably thought he had WMD. Invading Iraq had nothing
to do with WMD.

3. We know that but the pResident told everyone that WMD's
were the main reason. That was why we had to act immediately and couldn't afford to wait any longer.

US will liberate Iraq, says Bush

"We prefer voluntary compliance from Iraq. Force is our last choice but if force becomes necessary to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction... to secure our country and to keep the peace, America will act deliberately, America will act decisively, and America will prevail because we've got the finest military in the world."

4. Reminds me of a cartoon joke I saw
It shows Bush and Blair.
Blair:How do you know that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction?
Bush:We kept the receipts.
Isn't that why? We knew that he had them at one time and assumed that he hid, rather than destroyed them.

5. actually i thought the UN had cleaned up the WMDs
Didn't Blinx state as much before he went in again to look one more time - untill Bush figured the UN was taking to long and he'd better go and look for himself. And found nothing. As was to be expected.

6. No
He thought probably most of the WMD, but not all. They still had inspections to do in 1998. Blix never said Iraq was clean. But the inspections were working and should have continued as long as necessary. And we should have then moved on a humanitarian basis with peacekeepers in the north and south, then moved for reform from there.

7. Why isn't anyone asking
where he got the WMD'S from???? Could it be from us? Oh no our corporations wouldn't be that low to make a profit at the destruction of other peoples expense.

8. Here's what Colin Powell told the UN about the supposed failure
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 08:48 AM by DoYouEverWonder
of weapons inspections:

http://www.un.int/usa/03clp0205.htm

For example, let me focus on the now famous declaration that Iraq submitted to this Council on December 7th. Iraq never had any intention of complying with this Council's mandate. Instead, Iraq planned to use the declaration to overwhelm us and to overwhelm the inspectors with useless information about Iraq's permitted weapons so that we would not have time to pursue Iraq's prohibited weapons. Iraq's goal was to give us in this room, to give those of us on this Council, the false impression that the inspection process was working.

You saw the result. Dr. Blix pronounced the 12,200-page declaration rich in volume but poor in information and practically devoid of new evidence. Could any member of this Council honestly rise in defense of this false declaration?

Everything we have seen and heard indicates that instead of cooperating actively with the inspectors to ensure the success of their mission, Saddam Hussein and his regime are busy doing all they possibly can to ensure that inspectors succeed in finding absolutely nothing.

Gee Colin, maybe there wasn't anything to find? But no, that was never a consideration. That wouldn't have given you the excuse you needed to invade a sovereign nation for their resources.

9. I thought that we sold them to him
in the first place. You know, back when he was our buddy and we were all supporting him against those evil Iranians.
