Who here believes that Fallujah is a doomed township?
Is there nothing we can do? Are we "Americans" going to sit idly by as the bombs drop and the bullets "strafe" this town and do nothing? Are we here at DU, going to let the media get away with lies about insurgents, dead-enders, Al Quaida, or whatever, while our military decimates a town the size of Richardson, Texas?

Please God, tell me this is not so.

We are really not going to let this happen, are we?

1. It wouldn't be the first time
Vietnam's million plus deaths come to mind. Sherman's march to the sea. The genocide of America's Native people.

Fallujah can be the rallying cry for the force that ends the occupation of Iraq. Maybe those innocents will then have not died in vain.

2. In the history books of the future...
...the name "Fallujah" will have company the likes of "Mai Lai" and "Auschwitz."

B*sh's War is criminal, but what we're doing now is an obscenity and an atrocity.

3. Well the two of you pretty much nailed the head, dead on.
I am so sorry to hear this from both of you. I have had such a sense of dread coming up on one year now, for this town. Advice as I perceive it to be, is let it go. .........

There is nothing you/and or I, can do. Thank you for your compassion, your love and spirit. Peace be with you.....................

5. NO don't let it go ever!
even if we fail to turn back the tide on this, our outrage and concern will be noted even it is ignored.

6. Tell ya what we can do...
We can help get rid of Rumsfeld.

Let's pin the blame on Rumsfeld for this massacre. Even the military would like to see him bite the big one... he already has chewed off more than he can swallow..

Peace to you too, anarchy.

7. Certainly
there are plenty of statements from the last year that make him appear to be completely irresponsible and incompetent.

Also, from what I understand the decision to enter Fallujah to administer "pay-back" for the four dead mercenaries was approved or possibly originated from the very top: Rumsfeld and Bush.

media links.

Fax, and Phone. We the people have no other options. Only we can stop what is happening and the world is watching us. Will we fade out into festivals, horse races, basketball and hockey or will we finally wake up? Sadly I fear for us all.

Let us please not forget to shop.

10. some words from MLK
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 10:21 AM by G_j
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "The Trumpet of Conscience", 1967

We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Remaining Awake Through A Great Revolution ", 3.31.68

Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.

- Martin Luther King Jr., quoting Martin Luther

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Letter From
Birmingham Jail ", 4.16.63

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

- Martin Luther King Jr., Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech , 12.10.64

If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Justice Without Violence", 4.3.57

Never succumb to the temptation of bitterness.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Strength to Love", 1963

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"

- Martin Luther King Jr., "I've Been to the Mountain Top ", 4.3.68

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Strength to Love", 1963

The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Strength to Love", 1963

The time is always right to do what is right.

- Martin Luther King Jr., "Letter From Birmingham Jail ", 4.16.63

People For the American Way proudly brings you the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968).
