I saw a disgusting sight yesterday
Drove behind a pick up truck with huge letters on the tail gate that said "Finish the Job. Nuke Iraq." After seeing the pictures on what a 2000 pound bomb did recently to Fallujah I am very shaken to know that people like that live in my neighborhood. God! what has this nation become?

2. Honestly, I don't
How is a nuked country any good for us--assuming we went in there in the firt place to get our filthy paws on their oil? I guess I am confused over the srange mentality of people like the driver of the truck.

3. Sad, really sad
My take on it is that there are a lot of people who are frustrated and angry with the way their lives are going, due to economic and social changes that they do not understand--because the mass media have taught them to be intellectually lazy.

As a result, there is lots of free-floating anger out there, and the radio demagogues are only too happy to supply a target for it: darker skinned people in another country.

By the way, hi, Mrs. Moose!

:hi:

5. Cool
When gas goes to $15 a gallon after we've glassed 10% of the world's oil fields, we'll never see Mr Dumbass With the Tough-Guy Bumperstickers on the road again.

8. What it's always been
The fact is, progressives/liberals want a better future.

And many Americans gullibly perk up their ears to "lower taxes" and other fictional repuke rhetoric. If the repukes told the truth, they wouldn't get more than 30% of the vote.

Americans are willing to be led. And if the prez says "attack!", "War", and so on, they're going to be for it. Until the misadministration proves how inept it is (e.g. "Iraq").

As with the upcoming oil crash, you can bet that any long-term effect from Iraq (meaning more terrorists out to kill us) will be placed on the next president in charge (most likely a Democrat). This'll then give repukes an advantage because people are fickle and forgetful. They will not remember history. Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II are responsible for EVERYTHING that's been happening. But people still readily vote for them.

10. Folks like that have NO idea what a nuclear weapon can do.....
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 09:47 AM by A HERETIC I AM
I recently heard an interview of a fellow that was closely tied with the US Nuclear weapon program thruout the late 50's, 60's and 70's (I think on "Fresh Air, with Terry Gross"). This guy made an interesting comparison. He was asked something to the effect "Well, what about TACTICAL nuclear weapons or "Theatre" nukes? He said "Hiroshima was basically a tactical weapon compared to what is available today."

The point is, it wouldn't take that many weapons to completey flatten a country the size of Iraq and render it unusable for several decades. Something less than 10 of the largest yield weapons would do it.

Folks that say things like "Nuke Iraq" seem to me to have the impression that a nuclear weapon is juuuuust a little bigger than a 2000 lb bunker buster.

There is no comparison.

17. I had a rehearsal in the Altstadt today
and was early. To pass the time I flipped through a postcard rack at one of the souvenir shops. Displayed there was a series of photos of the area after the bombing. One was of the inside of our "Dom"(cathedral) in rubble. I LOVE THE DOM. Each time I ride the escalator up from the Strassenbahn and it comes into my view I gaze up in wonder. Gott sei dank the Amis did NOT level it (they used it as a navigational marker). It took 700 years to build, to this day ALWAYS has scaffolding on it repairing something or other and it's simply AWESOME. The pictures showed the surrounding area in rubble.

Americans "think" that WTC was a BIG DEAL. IT WAS NOT. It was 3 buildings and a one day occurrence. You CANNOT IMAGINE the devastation of being bombed day after day, having everything you understood as a part of your environment LEVELED TO THE GROUND. I grok it, even vicariously, having seen books with before and after pix, or walking through the cobblestone streets that have plaques EVERYWHERE commemorating those who died at the hands of the nazis. It BREAKS MY HEART that so many WILL NOT LEARN from the experience of others.

11. simple solution from a simple mind.
If you asked this idiot 'What job? and how, exactly, would that finish it?' his head would explode. Guarantee it.

But, then again, it may be best to avoid the fruitcake. Quite often, people driving vehicles carrying these kind of sentiments are the kind that will run up on my bumper, cut me off in traffic, try to run me off the road, hurl red-faced invectives, and generally speaking - seem to have a stiff middle finger problem.

hmm, maybe that's why they aren't in the thick of it -

medical reasons

'Er, yup, I tried to enlist to go kill me some Eye-raqis, but I got this here stiff middle finger, so they wouldn't take me.'

I wonder too, pippin. Just no way I can wrap my mind around that kind of mindset.
