The USA is the Weimar Republik

I saw that USA is Nazi Germany thread and thought that was a bit too much.

I think the parallel is alot more with the Weimar Republic (although this is a pretty broad-brush parallel).

A very vibrant avant-garde culture, a very technologically and economically avanced society, a flourishing and activist gay community....

...yet, alot of receactionary things going on...miltitarism and rabid nationalism, conservative political forces, revanchism, a []Dolchstosslegende to explain a past military defeat, scapegoating to blame problems on minoritys, shouting down and disruption of the left and claiming the left is or was disloyal, a desire to return to traditional family values...etc.

We are not really expreincing the political violence that marred the Weimar Republic, and our democratic and republic traditions are alot stronger.

Yet, there are parallels, yes.
