Isn't it about time we spend some money on the draft? |
|
And by "we" I mean the party. I think this is a very serious question. This will bring huge numbers of votes.
I think we have MORE than enough reason to believe Bush is going to start up the draft. The recent news about practice exercises seals the deal IMO. The funding increases. The filling of the draft boards. (and the brief attempt to pull and disappear the news about it) The facts about needing more troops in Iraq in oh say 2005 - and certainly needing more troops if any military action is taken against other nations. The special skills draft.
I think the party should combine all information suggesting a draft is coming - run commercials tv/radio commercials, mass mail the information to people in swing states, ask dem elected officials to mention it when interviewed, etc. Will it cost money? You bet. But I think the votes it will bring will be well worth it. This needs to be spread far and wide.
Hopefully Kerry can make it an issue too.

1. Kerry needs to come out strongly against the draft and the war. |
|
If he doesn't, he will throw away his best opportunity for election.
Kerry needs to stand up and start saying something like this:
"My fellow Americans, I was lied to. You were lied to. We were all lied to about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. When I voted in support of sending forces to Iraq, it was with the understanding that Iraq was a threat to the United States.
I have now learned that this was a lie. Iraq was no more a threat to us than a dozen other countries, many of which are trading partners with the United States.
It's time to face the fact that our invasion of Iraq was based on a lie. We need to bring our troops home and turn over the governing of Iraq to the Iraqi people. We need to replace our military operations there with humanitarian relief."
Sadly, I think that this will never happen. Pity.

2. Kerry has no real plan to get out of Iraq. |
|
Therefore, he is not going to speak out against it. If he wins, he will need all the new recruits he can get.
