Russert's got Kerry for the full hour:

Good timing... and I was really hoping he'd show up on the Sunday talkies soon. :D

17. Yep, I'm Jen's Mom.
She's told me and told me about the DU and I've been a guest, reading the posts, for quite a while. However, after Shrub's "news" conference last week, I can't keep my mouth shut another minute. I haven't protested since the 60's, but I'm ready to make a sign and start a sit-in.

If I don't go to heaven it's because I once voted for a Repug; Rockefeller who acted like a Democrat. . . sigh. . . I was young and foolish.

See where Jen gets it from?

Thanks for all the welcomes; Jen was correct -- you're a good bunch of folks.

23. Well, we each do "our jobs," I think.
Do I see where Jen gets it from? Well ... since you must be a shy, easy-going, sof-spoken, and retiring type like Jen, I guess so.

Welcome, Kuk'!! :hi:

10. Everybody, please welcome my mom.
If it weren't for her... it would have taken me a lot longer to eventually become a Democratic activist-type.

I'm goofing off at work, but I'll call you soon, mom. :-)

4. you can trace Dean's demise to his first appearance on Russert
check out daily howler, as one example, of how Russert savaged him, hot ineptly, according to the media herd, he handled it, and how they started in on him from that point on. see link down the post

Watch for Russert to pull the same shit on Kerry, as he did Dean

if he had ONE ounce of campaign sense, guts, balls, etc., he'd have a RAFT of cites of Russert's being in the big cess TANK for pugs, with reams of quotes corroborating it, and shove these facts down that that fat russetfaced, jabbathehut piehole of his, and ask him WHY he gives pugs the red carpet, and dems the red ASS.

the media SO need another Bush/Rather moment from back in 88, cept they need to have it handed to them by a DEM!

course, he'll just sit there like a pumpkin and take it, allow Russert to keep him on the defensive, just as he tried to do with Clarke.

unfortunately, with all his nuanced, evolving views, differentiated votes on myriad subjects, he's going to be a big, tall target for RNC attacking points, which Fatrat will repeat endlessly, never giving Kerry a chance do define himself with a positive view of a nonfascist Amerikkka.

think I'm exaggerating:
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh070103.shtml

Does Russert have a single standard, applied to Dems and Reps alike? Many Dems believe he does not. A look at his 1999 session with Bush helps show why so many Dems think that.

Candidate Bush did Meet the Press on November 21, 1999, shortly after a pair of flaps had roiled the Washington press corps. On October 31, Time had reported that Naomi Wolf was advising Candidate Gore, and this led to a series of foolish flaps that continued throughout the election. But three days later, on November 3, Boston TV reporter Andy Hiller ambushed Candidate Bush with a fiendish foreign relations “pop quiz.” Bush was stumped by Hiller’s questions, and looked a bit shaky in the process. Each of these episodes had received wide attention in the weeks before Bush did Meet the Press.

How did Russert handle these matters? He never mentioned Bush’s “pop quiz,” directly or indirectly. Indeed, in the next day’s New York Times, Frank Bruni puzzled a bit over Russert’s milquetoast performance:

BRUNI: Because Mr. Bush had not done a live television interview of this length since he announced his candidacy in June, the appearance was widely anticipated as a chance to see how nimbly he could negotiate an array of policy questions…
Although Mr. Bush had just given a foreign policy speech on Friday and had previously drawn criticism for several gaffes when talking about international affairs, Mr. Russert did not dwell long on global matters.

That was a bit of an overstatement by Bruni, but Russert was no bulldog this day. In particular, he didn’t allude to the “pop quiz,” or to other alleged gaffes which had drawn attention. But man, how he hit on Naomi Wolf! In what can only be viewed as a world-class pander, Russert tossed several softballs to Bush midway through the hour. His Wolf-spinning started with this:

RUSSERT: One out of every three kids born in this country, born to a single mom.

BUSH: Yeah.

RUSSERT: Millions of them teen-age moms. Let me show you what Naomi Wolf, an advisor to Vice President Gore, has to say about this issue and put it on the screen: “We should address the teen abortion and unwanted pregnancy rate by doing what Dr. Elders lost her job as surgeon general simply for mentioning: we should teach petting—‘sexual gradualism’—and let our kids know that there are many ways of having pleasure and intimacy that don’t involve intercourse. This is an agenda both the Left and the center can agree on, for it’s hardly a radical notion. Mutual masturbation: history shows it’s the old-fashioned, Main Street, American way. If we teach kids about other kinds of sexual exploration that help them wait for intercourse until they are really ready, we let girls find out about their desire, give them back power in erotic negotiation, and let kids have an option not to go immediately ‘from zero to sixty.’ Teaching sexual gradualism is as sensible as teaching kids to drive.”

14. HOWEVER ----!
John Kerry continuously gives great performances on Meet the Press. I haven't seen a one where he was bettered by Russert. Even when I was for someone else in the primary, I was struck by how good he was.

21. Maybe it's just because I'm getting used to it, but...
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 08:14 PM by VolcanoJen
... the more I think about it, nominating an experienced politician, and war hero, might have been a damned good idea.

I look forward to watching Kerry tomorrow morning. It's an excellent opportunity for him to show Americans what intelligence, thoughtfulness, bravery, courage and leadership look like.

5. He's an administration shill for the most part..

He threw a bunch of softballs at Bush the last interview, and Bush still managed to fuck it up.

They were concise, direct questions. They weren't loaded with all kinds of twisted innuendo like the ones he lobs at Democrats.

He usually lobs " Have you stopped beating your wife?" type questions at Dems.

He seems to have gotten more balanced lately, but in the past was a total Bush whore.

19. McGovern Button?
The McGovern button wasn't so bad. Remember when I wanted you to take an IUD to your second grade class for "show and tell?"

For those of you too young to remember, an IUD is an inter-uterine device which was used for birth control back in the 70's. It suffered from an inadequate amount of research before it was approved for use; many women got big-time sick from it.

9. Russert = big time media whore
When he had kennedy on a few weeks he went after him like a lion but when he has repubs on like Gulianni or Bush it turns into a love fest! Look out Kerry....Russert will turn into a journalist again...at least until your interview is over and a repub is on his show!

12. Just remember that Chimpy officially "Jumped the Shark" on Russert's show.
Well, for us, it was the day he was (s)elected, or, for the late-comers, the 2004 State of the Union speech.

The whole world figured it out during that fanciful Russert interview. I happen to think Kerry can hold his own...

15. KERRY CAN HANDLE IT
Heck, I could handle it better than Bush, and Im not the president. Kerry is intellegent and knows how to speak in complete sentences. He has also lived a fuller life and has more realistic life experiences than the Resident. I'm not worried at all. I am going to watch it before I go to church.

That's cute there is a mother-daughter set of DUer. Maybe when my kids grow up, they will continue the liberal movement on DU. My dad thinks he's a Republican (but I have convinced him to vote Kerry) and this place would be way to radical for him. My mother is deceased - but she would have loved it. When Ted Kennedy ran for president, she had a Ted Kennedy campaign sign in our yard - in Houston, Texas and he didn't even win the primary. :)

Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 07:39 PM by VolcanoJen
I'm not even sweatin' Kerry's appearance in the morning. It's overdue, yet just in time... Perfect timing for him to express the fundamental choice that lay at the feet of the American electorate.

I heart politics,
Jennifer :-)
