MSNBC: Bush urges renewal of Patriot Act
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4766075/
"Bush urges renewal of Patriot Act
President says the law is vital to U.S. security"

Quote 1: "Declaring the Patriot Act a vital tool in the war on terror, President Bush says Congress would place the nation at greater risk of attack if it fails to renew the law’s wide-ranging law enforcement powers."

Quote 2: "“To abandon the Patriot Act would deprive law enforcement and intelligence officers of needed tools in the war on terror, and demonstrate willful blindness to a continuing threat.”"

Quote 3: "“Since I signed the Patriot Act into law, federal investigators have disrupted terror cells in at least six American cities,” said Bush. He said that since Sept. 11, the Justice Department has charged over 300 people in terrorism-related investigations, more than half of whom have been convicted or pled guilty."

Quote 4: "A recent study concluded that while the Justice Department has sharply increased prosecution of terrorism-related cases since the Sept. 11 attacks, many fizzled and few produced significant prison time."

End of quotes

The jubilant burst of applause that followed Bush's solemn pronouncement during the S.O.T.U. address that the Patriot Act would soon expire is still fresh in my memory. It's the same spin as the "308,000 new jobs created in March."

A little slap on the wrist for an Al Quaeda member ain't gonna do it. Pissing off psychotic criminals and / or religious zealots has a poor track record when it comes to fighting a TRUE "terra war."

It all comes down to we are safer because Bush says so. We all sleep better at night because Saddam is no longer running his rape rooms.

Meanwhile, Dubya and Rove and Hughes and Rice and Ashcroft and Rumsfeld and Evil Dick are busy running their own rape room, which they laughingly refer to as the U.S.A....

They see you when you're sleeping.

They know when you're awake.

They know if you've been bad or good

So be good for goodness' sake.

2. The Patriot Act should be repealed
If Congress fails to repeal the act, civil disobedience should be the public response.

4. i agree, "kerry could get a LOT of mileage out of this,"
but he will not stand up for our civil liberties and say, i will repeal the pat. act, i will not rely on the sunset clause (which does not rid us of article 213 or 215) to give us citizens their freedom back.............

civil liberties could be an issue that kerry could use to beat bush bloody, but he just will not do it, and it makes me sick.

Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 09:34 PM by rdfi-defi
avoided by most duers? i have tried to start a discussion about it before and people seem to run for the hills. are people afraid to acknowledge how much our freedoms are currently suppressed in this country?
