Woodward Book Excerpts 1 of 5
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 01:36 AM by mb7588a
Front page of the Sunday Washington Post - exerpts from Woodward's new book, "Plan of Attack."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A19691-2004Apr17.html

Rice was the only member of his war cabinet whom Bush directly asked for a recommendation of whether to go to war. "What do you think?" he had asked her a few weeks before. "Should we do this?"

"Yes," she said. "Because it isn't American credibility on the line, it is the credibility of everybody that this gangster can yet again beat the international system." As important as credibility was, she said, "Credibility should never drive you to do something you shouldn't do." But this was much bigger, she advised, something that should be done. "To let this threat in this part of the world play volleyball with the international community this way will come back to haunt us someday. That is the reason to do it."

Other than Rice, Bush said he didn't need to ask the principal advisers whether they thought he should go to war. He knew what Vice President Cheney thought, and he decided not to ask Secretary of State Colin L. Powell or Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.

Geez.. I can't even pick out the highlight paragraph after that to get to 4... just read the thing. Unbelievable. Woodward is a God.

edit: typo in subject.

1. Woodward is a neocon.. or he *was*... Anywhoo......
It makes perfect sense. Rice is Bush's fulltime handler....and she works for Cheney and Rove. And works ON bush 100 percent of the time.... that explains the vacations together perfectly.

Rove is a genious. He didn't dig Karen Hughes, that's for sure. So he found an apparent sycophant who is also evil... and someone bush would naturally feel SUPERIOR over (keeping bush happy...) and she has been minding the man from the get go.

A-mazing... it is making sense to me. Perfect sense.

LOL... bush didn't talk to cheney or rumsfled about the war...but Condi sure the hell did......

4. I have no idea if Woodward is a "neo - con"
or not. I will say this for him, he has attacked Republicans more than Democrats in the past. In "Veil" he went after William Casey and the CIA ( the Reagans hate him for it), He got Burger and the Supremes pretty good in "The Brethren", He ripped up Dan Quayle in a biography. He reminds me of Maureen Dowd in a way ---- an equal opportunity basher.

I think he might be sympathetic toward Bush, but still, from what I've read of the excerpts, he tells plenty of dirt on Bush and Company in this latest book.

2. Blame Two People for the War
According to the excerpt, Colin Powell and the Polish President put aside their misgivings and deferred to the little boy.

3. I posted in LBN about the constant parroting of "Mr. President"...
in the first excerpt from the book --

Is part of the problem that this imbecile is constantly called "Mr. President" by people whose intentions we consider vile but acknowledge as intelligent? He snaps at a reporter when he starts a question with "Sir." ("Who are you TALKING to?" "Mr. President.") How many times is Bush called that in this first excerpt? He's so inept he has to have scripted "press conferences" and can't be trusted to testify before the 9/11 Commission without Cheney and his brain sitting beside him, but all day long he hears, "Mr. President." We have a crazy man in our White House. The Supreme Court created a monster with that 5/4 decision. Bush really thinks he's a President -- "MR. President."
