Kerry and my Republican uncle |
|
They don't know each other or anything.
About 10 or 12 years ago, my uncle stayed with me for awhile, because he was on hard times. We mostly got along fine. But one time I actually took a swing at him, because he started bad-mouthing Jimmy Carter, saying some really nasty things about him. I later apologized to him for my beer-inspired violence (even though he was clearly baiting me). Everything was cool.
A day or two later, we were watching CNN. This was the around the time of the OJ Simpson trial. I was starting to get on his good side, because I agreed that OJ was clearly guilty. John Kerry came on tv, I don't remember what he was talking about, but I said "That John Kerry guy would make a good president one day." And my uncle, a very Republican guy, said "I think so too, I've watched him for a long time, and that guy is a warrior," or words to that effect.
Anyway, that's about it. Take it for what it's worth. But I don't think they are going to have an easy time painting Kerry as some "out-of-touch Liberal," considering who the guy is on the other side. I mean he's no liberal of course, but he's clearly out of touch.

1. Ok that was a little confusing |
|
are you saying Kerry is no liberal (I would agree with that) and that he is clearly out of touch, but would make a good president?
Sure you aren't drinking beer tonight? LOL!
And honestly, I actually laughed out loud at your description of taking some beer-fueled swings at your uncle for his badmouthing Carter. Fist fights for Carter! Rock on!
ROFL......so what was that about Kerry?
And I saw the CSPAN airing of the 1971 episode of the Dick Cavett show where Kerry was debating some dork in plaid pants about Vietnam and I was struck by how incredibly articulate and intelligent he was at **27** years old, compared to Chucklenuts at what? 55? 57? And the guy we got now can't even speak in compound-complex sentences, so it was rather startling to see (that Dick Cavett show episode).
I was a Dean person, but I'm liking Kerry more and more.

3. fistfights for Carter. LOL |

I think Kerry, being so damn rich, might be a little out of touch with the "common person," but I do think he's a real liberal. And he will definitely get my vote in November. He's very articulate, and my Republican uncle recognized that. I liked Dean best too, but I'm with Kerry all the way now.
What's next? Fistfights for Ghandi? :)

Betcherass. I'm Irish. We like fistfights. I like Ghandi. It sorta goes together, in a weird congnitive dissonant kind of way.

It does have a certain charm, and we need the money! (Given Bush's idea of economic recovery and all ...)

But don't mention you're a gay liberal. ;)
What part of Florida? I think he's in the Tampa area, but I'm not sure.
