Why is there not more outrage @ * "Brown People" remarks |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 06:51 AM by Mobius
in his "press conference"? I mean he said "Many people believe brown people cannot run a country responsibly, I dont believe that (sure GW:eyes:)..." or something like that. Whats up with this not being harped on by every news agency in the world? To me, it was the most blatantly offensive thing he said...

1. I was wondering the same last week |
|
I was appalled that a PRESIDENT* would have the balls to say that! And they let him get away with it. Then I thought, "well, I am the whitest person on the planet so maybe this is now an okay thing to say and I am just behind the times."
Or maybe it is just that no one wants to call this asshole out on anything.

Its is verbal evidence in W's own words of his blatant rascism, and people use Condi as his reply....Im sorry, Condi gave up being black a long time ago. btw, I am white, and this makes other whites in the US look bad around the world, when * has destroyed internation relationships already. Im sure the Arab community just LOVED that statement :eyes:

about it being ok. ;) Yeah, I was embarrassed. I thought I didn't hear it right and had to wait until I read the transcript. In fact, my husband and I were just talking about the "brown-skinned" statement a couple hours ago.

Probably because junior said so many dumb things that this was not a priority. Don't worry it won't go unnoticed.

7. Prejudice Is In Vogue In "Red America"... |
|
Remember, Bunnypants was talking to his drifting base and had to use the language they understand. Black and white, good and evil-doers, with us or against us...and so on. Put yourself in this myopic world and what the moron aped is somewhat reassuring.
The picture the wingnuts want America to have is of a society under attack on all fronts...socially and sexually by gays and women, economically by blacks, hispanics and poor whites and abroad by either the Chinese (Yellow) or "Islamists" (Brown)...the blacks aren't a problem as they're already "tamed".
In this bizzaro world, we're at a war and the front lines are both in Iraq and on our own streets. The enemies in Iraq are brown-skins (yuk yuk...and they all have mustaches, too, Bunnypants) while the ones on our streets are anyone who dares to question this vision without a vision.
This, my friend, is talking in fear.

|
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 07:07 AM by doni_georgia
He is so out of touch with minorities, he thought his remark would appeal to minorities, and get them to actually believe Democrats don't believe that Iraqi's can self-govern because of the color of their skin. Thankfully minority voters aren't stupid - unlike the president. The fact that he didn't know his remarks were demeaning goes to show how dumb he is. What should we expect though, Poppy Bush calls Jeb's kids his "brown grandchildren."

He was making it seem that underlying racism is the reason democracy hasn't been had a chance to work in the Middle East. He's pulling more "uniter not divider" bullshit out of his ass.

20. Because of how it was taken by most people - here compare: |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 12:20 PM by Selwynn
There are those who believe brown people cannot run a country responsibly.
And
There are those who don't believe that "brown people" can run a country responsibly. I don't believe that.
The reason it isn't being harped on is because it is obviously clear that, whether you like Bush or not, he was saying that there are some people who don't believe Iraq will succeed because they are racist. That's not really an offensive statement, even if its wrong.
Think about it before just reacting to my post. There are many times when we want to illustrate the offensiveness of someone else's point of view we will use offensive terms in quotations, or give an example of something they would say, specifically because it is offensive and we want to emphasize how wrong it is.
The bottom line is that there isn't more outrage because it was perfectly obvious that Bush was saying other people feel that sentiment and that sentiment is wrong.
HOWEVER,
Where we should feel more outrage politically is in the fact that this statement is an outrageous and ridiculous lie. Name me ONE PERSON George, who claims that. Oh that's right, its always the ambiguous "there are those out there." The mysterious "some people." I just wish that when Bush would have said that someone from the Press would have said, "name one."

(well, according to whitehouse.gov)
"Some of the debate really center around the fact that people don't believe Iraq can be free; that if you're Muslim, or perhaps brown-skinned, you can't be self-governing and free. I strongly disagree with that. I reject that, because I believe that freedom is the deepest need of every human soul, and, if given a chance, the Iraqi people will be not only self-governing, but a stable and free society."
Makes on wonder who "people" are. Was he implying that the U.S. is a racist country? Was he saying that "people" are racist, but he is not?
OR
Was he implying that "the brown baby" (Poppy's name for Jeb's son) could govern?
