....besides their mis-spelling of the word 'statement'

Statement Regarding Abdel Aziz Rantisi

April 17, 2004

STEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

As we have repeatedly made clear, Israel has the right to defend itself from terrorist attacks. Hamas is a terrorist organization that attacks civilians, and that claimed responsibility for the suicide attack today that killed one and injured other Israeli guards at the Erez crossing. The United States is gravely concerned for regional peace and stability. The United States strongly urges Israel to consider carefully the consequences of its actions, and we again urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint at this time. This is especially true at a moment when there is hope that an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza will bring a new opportunity for progress toward peace. All parties should focus on the positive, concrete steps needed now to make the Gaza withdrawal successful.

.........Israel has the right to defend itself, hamas are all terrorists, not people, the u.s. is gravely concerned for regional peace and stability.....?....oh really?....but we sell both sides weapons, and give both sides billions, (not palestinians, but saudis and certain taliban members) the u.s. urges israel to consider the consequences of it's actions?...oh really?....we sell them the helicopters that did today's attack...we urge maximum restraint?...don't make me laugh, the want the whole region to explode in blood...there is hope for an israeli withdrawal from the gaza?....seriously, who writes this stuff?...new opportunities for peace?...where do they see that?...both sides should focus on the positive?...and what might they discuss around tea and toast?...

the monsters at bushco don't want peace in that accursed region, there's no profit in it. as long as the slaughter continues, and we make a profit from it, and we can give the heathen muslims holy hell, why interupt the fun?

i'm sorry, but this whole bloody outrage in the middle east is a forest fire, and buscho is dumping gasoline on it from helicopters.
when they say they want peace in the middle east.....they lie.

1. He's a "War President"

I think the basic psychology has been laid out by now. Without conflict and turmoil, he's out of a job. How can he protect us from peace?

The mistake that we are all making is that we spend many, many hours dissecting and analyzing what is behind the policies and practices of the Bush administration, coming to a moral conclusion. At that point we expect justice.

The part that we keep leaving out is that Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft/Rumsfeld/Rice/Rove/Hughes KNOW they're lying. They KNOW what they're doing. Cheney looks in his bank account and sees the Haliburton dollars and, to quote Shakespeare, giveth not a flying fuck if those dollars came from the spilled blood of you, your mother, your father, your son, your daughter, your brother, your sister, or your second cousin Fred.

You're right..."this whole bloody outrage in the middle east is a forest fire, and buscho is dumping gasoline on it from helicopters"...and they're going to make a pantsload of money from the ensuing fireball.

You want justice? You want they lying to stop? Work on everyone you know...then start working on everyone you DON'T know...to vote George W. Antichrist out of office in November.

2. VOTE?!! I can't believe you just said "VOTE".
I'll apologize up front. I'm very upset about what is going on right now. But I can't believe after the strength of what you were saying in the first three quarters of your post you ended up by encouraging us to VOTE.

I'm beginning to conclude as other DUers are beginning to conclude that VOTING is NOT going to be an option this fall. I hope that is wrong, but I have serious doubts.

I think the neocons are VERY VERY dangerous people. I think they--or at least some within their ranks--WANT the middle east to spiral out of control. They WANT a real, full blown war that will JUSTIFY major atrocities from our side--and a complete redrawing of the political map in that area of the world. It could even spill over into a global war against US--and I think they WANT that.

VOTE? As some wise ass once said, "IF VOTING REALLY DID ANYTHING, IT WOULD BE ILLEGAL."

3. OK, I hear you, but...
...even though we may be on the road to finding ourselves waist-deep in World War III...even though BushCo may very well "WANT the middle east to spiral out of control"...we have two options, vote or not vote.

Yes, he stole his first election. Yes, Rove is making sly comments about winning Ohio by "a comfortable margin." Yes, we have an administration single-mindedly focused on its own power and longevity, totally aware of potential consequences and willing to accept them if it means staying in power...

And yes, they are "VERY VERY dangerous people."

But my choice...even though I may be kidding myself for making this choice...is I will go down fighting. It's April. I don't give a fuck HOW evil Bush is. I'm not conceding to him yet.

4. I was not advocating "conceding" anything
I'm beginning to think that we--I mean here at DU and those we can reach--need to be thinking about a CONTINGENCY.

It has even occurred to me to start a thread along these lines but I'm just not clear in my own mind what I'm thinking. I need other people's thoughts on this. . .

VOTING is NOT our only option. UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES it might be wise of us to have a "contingency plan" for a well coordinated but nevertheless not specifically timed demonstration of CIVIL disobedience. In other words, to agree amongst ourselves, and to work at getting others to agree, that if one of a number of pre-established things occur, we would, for example, en mass, vocally walk off our jobs and out into the streets.

We have the internet. We COULD establish such a contingency. Specifics aside, what do you think about that as an idea in general?

5. remember
Hamas was the Israeli`s counter to Arafat. the Israeli government thought by creating a counter to Arafat (when he was thrown out of Palestine by the Israeli government) he would no longer be as powerful. i guess they got that wrong, now they are murdering their former employees..tough guys to work for-you`re not "fired" ,they kill you.
does anyone ever mention these guys were put in power by Israel? i don`t think so.
