Condi Rice on CBS, tries to explain away the $700 million diversion |
|
of funds from the war in Afghanistan to the "planned" war in Iraq. She said it was OK because it was all part of the region - just as Pakistan, India, Iran, Syria, and Egypt are part of the region. Sorry, they are going to have to come up with a better response than that.
She was told by Bob Shieffer that it was "illegal" to divert funds from the war in Afghanistan to Iraq, she said the General, Tommy Franks had the authority to spend the money wherever he wanted, in Iraq or elsewhere, even though Congress had not appropriated any funds to fight a war in Iraq.
This appears to be the official White House explanation for their illegal act. Whether or not the press will let them get away with this is another question. John Kerry and the Democrats should continue to get to the bottom of this story and find out exactly how th $700 million was spent.

2. "She said it was OK because it was all part of the region -" |

That's like saying it's okay to invade Brazil because Cuba is communist.
I can't watch the lying liars anymore. If someone can, give a synopsis of the interview.
I'd also like to request a picture of it to see if her evil looking eyebrows have been modified yet.

that it was O.K. to spend Afghanistan funds on Iraq because they both have "brown skinned people." Sadly, the Administration will probably get away with this.

3. "same region" is bogus in more ways than one |
|
Firstly, Iraq is in the Middle East and Afghanistan isn't.
Secondly, if Congress wanted to appropriate money for a broad geographical region, it would have written the law that way.
The Bush Administration broke the law, if that is their best explanation.

5. Ok...."part of the region"??? |
|
$8.5 Million was diverted from the $87Billion that was appropriated for the Occupation of Iraq. The $8.5 Million was diverted to Jeb bush in Florida who used it to suppress the protests at the WTO meeting. I guess Florida is in the same region as Iraq.
(BTW: This is off topic. Maybe needs a thread of its own, but I've been pissed about this funding for the Police State in Florida. Does this qualify as another diversion of appropriated funds. )

Guilty as charged, Condi, of an unconstitutional act.
