John Kerry: Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory

John Kerry: Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory
by Margaret Kimberley

The Black Commentator
April 15, 2004

A president who “won” despite getting fewer votes than his opponent should have to work very hard to be elected again. If he also presided over the loss of 2 million jobs he ought to be in even bigger trouble. If that president is also bogged down militarily in a foreign country when he said the mission was already accomplished his problems would seem to be insurmountable. His political obituary should be written if 3,000 people died after warnings of a terror attack were ignored or mishandled. Fortunately for President George W. Bush his opponent is Senator John Kerry, a man who can’t seem to profit from the President’s failures and lies.

The Democratic party is headed for defeat if the nominee can’t articulate coherent policies in response to Bush administration incompetence. On the same day that National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice was on the hot seat before the commission investigating September 11th, Kerry had no comment about the commission, or about Rice’s testimony. Instead he declared in a speech on economic policy that he would eliminate portions of his own domestic agenda in order to have a balanced budget. As Bush’s Iraq policy unraveled before our eyes Kerry’s only comment was to say that he didn’t have a comment. Because he already gave two speeches to wonkish establishment audiences he didn’t feel the need to add very much on the subject of Iraq.

2. blah blah blah ...don't buy it.

Kerry has articulated numerous times, and continues to articulate Bush's failures.

Let Kerry run his campaign. He seems to be doing just fine so far without "well-meaning" advice givers such as this person.

5. Political rule #1: When your opponent is heading off a cliff,
you don't want to be anywhere on the mountain. Kerry's handled it the way he should have. He was skiing in Idaho during the testimonies.
The only thing he shouldn't have done was bash Bush for taking vacations while he himself just back from ten days on the slopes.

12. Well, with today's technology, it doesn't really matter where
a president is, physically. It isn't like 1900 when, if a president left Washington, he was isolated from what was happening.
In some ways, a president is never really on vacation. He is always 'on call'.

17. It's the image he portrays
He may be "on call" 100% of the time, but "clearing brush" and "being on vacation" are not exactly responsible ways to spend ones' time.

19. Hmm. Tenet says he didn't talk to Smirky the entire month of
August 2001 because he was in Texas. Seems he really IS on vacation 40 percent of the time and is not utilizing all those gee whizz technogadgets like a FUCKING telephone.

Somehow I don't see your fearless leader as engaged and working much. Lots of handwringing, blaming, pontificating, praying to the devil he worships, and boozing,........but not a lot of working.

22. So you're saying the technology wasn't there for him to reach Bush?
That's pretty absurd, isn't it, since you got secret service, and all methods of communication apparatus with a president at all times.
Point 2: I never even mentioned Bush in my preceding point, much less implied that he was my 'fearless leader'. Why don't you pay attention to the posts before you respond. You'll sound a lot smarter than way.

Bush was my governor. His mind was as vacant then as it is now. Please tell us why he is the first "president" who needs a "Western White House".

6. It's possible he's been threatened like Gorelick. Who know's what they
are up against. Daschle turned into a "marshmallow" after the "Selection" and the rest of them except Bobbie Byrd (too old to go after) and Kennedy (well we've already taken enough of that family out) and who is left? What they can't get to the involve in scandals and if there isn't a real scandal they invent one.

It's like reading Spy Books from the Cold War what's going on today.

Just thought I'd put in a little :tinfoilhat: that may not be so "tinfoil" if one thinks about it.

Thanks "Q." Always enjoy your posts.

18. Democracy is not Theocratic, Plutocratic, Aristocratic, Autocratic,
Kleptocratic, or "Kakistocratic"

"What they can't get to the involve in scandals and if there isn't a real scandal they invent one...It's like reading Spy Books from the Cold War what's going on today."

You hit the nail on the head. It bears an uncanny resemblance to what I used to hear about as a child - how oppressive Communism was to the masses.

Seems like our present gov't is hell-bent on aping those same characteristics because they don't recognize what's always been great about American democracy. The one they purport to want everyone to have is far from democracy.

As somebody elsewhere described it, now we're "slouching" toward:

Those who pray for
THEOCRACY made in their own image, are turning this country into a
PLUTOCRACY by joining with those who consider themselves
ARISTOCRACY (truly the "elite"), entitled to oppress through
AUTOCRACY, using maximum
HYPOCRISY to "win" and rule by
KLEPTOCRACY, and "conserving" what they have stolen by establishing
A KAKISTOCRACY, which delivers (basically, without invitation)the "gift" of
"DEMOCRACY"
to an undeserving world.

IT'S A TICKING TIME BOMB THAT IS SURE TO FULLY EXPLODE, but not until AFTER THE ELECTION.

Ya think that's what it will take to finally wake some people up?

10. More like:
The nutty pseudo-leftists who are determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

After all, here we have a president implementing insane, reprehensible policies in all aspects of his administration (from the environment, to the economy, to the war) who is rapidly declining in popularity, and all the left has to do is present a coherent front as the sane, rational alternative to Bush's incompetence.

And what do these nuts do? Descend into bickering about why Kerry's war policies aren't quite good enough, bitch about petty details of his economic plan, and deliberately misinterpret his proposals (like the college tuition for community service plan, which had these nutters throwing up their hands and wailing about it being a nefarious plan to implement a draft).

Never mind that on every issue they criticize Kerry for, Bush has an infinitely worse record; Never mind that their prefered candidate has no chance of winning the presidency, and that by voting for him or failing to vote at all they only lower the threshold necessary for Bush to retake the White House and permanently run this country into the ground; Never mind that this country can be protected by electing someone who, while he may not get everything right, is highly preferable to someone we know has gotten everything wrong; Never mind that no candidate is perfect, but the alternative is as bad as can possibly be imagined; Never mind the fact that all we need to do to protect this country from certain ruination at the hands of Bush is present a unified alternative to his insanity; Never mind all of that, these nutters are determined to seize defeat (for Kerry, for the Democrats, for the Left, and for The United States of America) from the jaws of victory.

16. John Kerry was extremely coherent on MTP
and has been consistently over the preceeding months.

Any stories regarding flip-flopping or lack of a coherent national strategy should be directed to Bush. Of course, when the president of the US resides behind an inpenetrable media wall, any questions will go unanswered.

what the fuck is:
"wonkish establishment"

Let's continue the debate with ideas and action. Not name calling without reference to fact. Kerry is honest and straightforward. I guess some people are unable to handle that.

20. Good

John Kerry was coherent. It's nice to know he's not a bumbling idiot! And he's straightforward to boot! We'll I'm sure this will be a major theme of his election campaign. Mighty powerful stuff!

24. John Kerry Is Speechless?

Of course. That is really smart and sophisticated politics. Every time Bush screws up or harms us in anyway, John Kerry should be silent. The less direct and outspoken Kerry is on issues the better.

Are you one of John Kerry's speechless writers?
