Secret US Government Report Says Mideast Democracy
Promise is Bushit
LA Times reports, "A classified State Dept report expresses doubt that installing a new regime in Iraq will foster the spread of democracy in the Middle East, a claim Bush has made in trying to build support for a war... The report exposes significant divisions within the Bush administration over the so-called democratic domino theory... says that daunting economic and social problems are likely to undermine basic stability in the region for years, let alone prospects for democratic reform. Even if some version of democracy took root - an event the report casts as unlikely - anti-American sentiment is so pervasive that elections in the short term could lead to the rise of Islamic-controlled governments hostile to the US. 'Liberal democracy would be difficult to achieve... Electoral democracy, were it to emerge, could well be subject to exploitation by anti-American elements.'"

4. Here...
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0314-06.htm

You can find the same article here.

I drag this State Department report out whenever someone here says we need to "stay the course" until we make everything better over there.

If you believe State, it's not going to happen.

Everything this pre-invasion report says is now coming true.

And it doesn't get better.

7. This is simply more evidence, in a long stream, that Bush
ignored in his rush to war. The people who wrote this report could be good ones to interview when the Iraq Disaster Commission is formed.

10. I heard a FA expert who said Rice cut the State Department out...
of all Iraq reconstruction involvement. Under Clinton, State ran the show for such efforts - Under Bush, it's 100% DOD.

14. Remember the Office of Strategic Influence/OSI, they were gonna use
the world's media to plant false stories in the war on terrorism, but the last story about the OSI is that it never opened-lol.

Thing are bad enough with the Office of Special Plans-which is open--and the Vulcans putting their political apparatus in key positions.
