Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 06:46 PM by KoKo01
Chimp doesn't even have the "depth of intellect" (my words) that Woodward uses in his quotes. Chimp doesn't "DO" Reflective Thinking.
He probably can't remember when Laura's Birthday is much less to be Woodward's "exclusive source for this book where he "supposedly" quotes the Chimp using words that aren't in his puny brain or vocabulary!

That's a figure of speech, by the way--not a personal attack on your sanity :). This was an incredibly damning interview. The Saudi price fixing scheme and the extra-congressional Iraq appropriation alone are enough to send him back to Crawford come November.

I thought it was very damning. I almost fell off my chair over the Saudi price fixing scheme-I hadn't heard anything about that yet. It also crossed my mind that Bush's close relationship with the Saudis may make some people wonder, since the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi. The average person probably has never heard about this before.

17. I will have to see the interview - but the book excerpts I have read |
|
all seem to point the finger at everyone but bush.
Bush declaring that the intel brought to him by Tenet wasn't good enough (is this all that you've got?!) ... then questioning if there really was a strong case (as if he was going to back track from the war if it wasn't?) Didn't ring true to anything we have heard/read of bush from insiders (that he hates policy, that he doesn't allow opposing views, that he is bored with details, etc.)
Will have to see and read to hear if a different tone comes forward.

goes. What Woodward recounted made Bush seem innocent of direct criminal behavior - but it completely painted Bush as being overly influenced by his religious zealotry - at one point Wallace asked, who was Bush getting his advice from, and Wallace pointed upwards as if to God, and Woodward seemed to agree with that.

19. unfortunately i have to differ with the views posted |
|
for the masses of americans, this book, and this interview, paints george bush as a man with a higher calling.
he was portrayed as concerned, at times to the point of tears, with the decisions he was making.
this is what the anti-intellectual, anti-elite want to hear. this is what they signed on for, and they will love it.
i wondered how bob woodward could write a negative 'expose' of the bush whitehouse after he had had his nose up bush's ass for three years, describing him as being so "presidential", and other crap.
i now see what he is doing. he wanted to write a book, with a little of the reality in it, but in a way that bush would like, approve, and clear for printing. plus make a lot of money.
and that is exactly what he did.
you notice he didn't mention "f**k saddam, he's going down!"
the 'intellectuals' will see the few outrageous points that were made, and try to point them out. but the unwashed masses will love what they hear, and want more of it.
woodward has successfully played both sides. he is a true whore. this book is to combat all the other books out now that are bashing bush. this is payoff for all those years of access.
and woodward is saying bush wasn't pushing iraq until two months after 9-11? i thought bush was pushing iraq within weeks of his being sworn into office.

that he came into office with an invasion of Iraq on his mind. Not even Woodward's book will convince me otherwise, especially since the PNACers make up his inner circle and the evidence is out there that they wanted Iraq invaded as early as 1997.
As far as showing Bush to be a man with a 'calling' most maniacs feel they have a calling. Just ask Charles Manson.

34. I agree - Woodward sells Bush as thoughtful, relying on God and Staff |
|
A cover-up that is meant to start the "values" campaign for Rove.
You know a whore like Woodward was not about to mess with the meal ticket.
Rove wanted the 700 million out now so he could say we did nothing about Reagan's similar treason so we should drop this.
And do you really want Saudi oil influence to keep prices down exchanged for a war hero that is into right and wrong?
I know how our media will sell it. I know how Rove will sell it. And I know how our media will not challenge the way Rove sells it.
Woodward remains a GOP whore.

you have stated so much better what I tried to say in my post: Spare me, Bob Woodward and got reamed for, mostly.
We hear the damning stuff but without the emphasis and WITH the depiction of Bush "as concerned, at times to the point of tears, with the decisions he was making" and as prayerful, the masses will certainly, blindly, willingly miss the big stuff.

To any thinking person (we must be elite), the picture that Woodward painted of George Bush was totally damning, that of a misguided religious zealot. I think Woodward's calm and thoughtful manner of speaking just served to point out Bush's hysteria over Sadam and Iraq.
Did anyone catch the info that, by pre-arrangement, gasoline prices will drop right before the election, to look as if the economy is strong?
I fear the common person in this country is not a thinking person, and they will be dutifully impressed by the picture of Bush as receiving direction from God, but I don't think Woodward was impressed by this, and neither was the 60 Minutes host.

|
...he seemed to be pinning any screwups on Bushes staff...Tenet, Cheney and Powell (comment on Bush being "skeptical" about a rosey scenario for the postwar).
Bushes fundy wrap about God telling him what to do and he being on some sort of mission might sound a bit "wacky/fundy" to us more agnostic types or mainstream Xtians, but that was a good play for the fundy/evangelical base that supports W.

"How will history judge you, Mr. President" "How should I know. We'll all be dead".
This is one of the utterly stupidest and crass statements made by any world leader who ever claimed to make a name for himself in history. What a huge historical joke! If god were really on the side of George W. Bush, they would have found WMDs in Iraq.

This appears to be a well researched piece and confirms Richard Clarke's key assertion that Bush wanted to invade Iraq immediately after Sept. 11.
I am troubled by Woodward's description of Bush. He does come off as more of a nut case than I thought. It is possible that Bush has really lost it.

we all might as well quit voting. If any sane, intelligent person can look at just 4 of the things and not call for his impeachment I will just give up. I've e-mailed all my congress critters and some news organizations AND called. I've never done that on anything before.
They impeached a president for lying about a sexual tryst.
But we're talking about misappropriation of funds: $700,000,000
Collusion with a foreign government to lower gas prices to influence an election.
Showing plans that are clearly marked NO FOREIGN.
And the still out there charges of outing a CIA agent for purely political gain.
All impeachable offenses, all heinous crimes against the United States.
I'm beside myself. I don't care what political persuasion you are. If you can condone or justify any of this, we are lost. Bush will have his Armageddon and we can sit back and wait for it.
If everyone on this board HASN'T e-mailed and/or called reps/senators/news about it, then this truelly is just another message board full of fluff on the internet that has no meaning.
