Even the Freepers understand Woodward is big trouble
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 07:55 PM by nomad1776
Look at this thread, even the freepers can see bush is in big trouble now. This interview showed bush is crazy and has committed impeachable crimes.

No, the damning thing was that we let Bandar see the war plans, and that we made a deal with Bandar to manipulate the oil markets vis a vis the November elections.

This better be untrue, or the President is in trouble. The american people will not tolerate the Saudis meddling in our affairs

3. I couldn't watch the interview--I'm at work
But from what I've gathered so far, Woodward played tapes of Chimpy himself, yes? Was the October Surprise one of the tapes?

Mmmmm...October Surprise (Homer Simpson).

Tapes

He played the tapes for the 60 Minutes producers so they could verify that what he was saying was said was actually said. (Weird sentence, that.)

Unless I missed it, they didn't play them on the show.

I just think we don't need this sh*t right now. Bush's reelection campaign has enough crap to overcome--we don't need this. We have 4 books out there saying Bush is a no good SOB (worse than Nixon) O'Neil, Woodward, Clarke (all owned by Viacom) and John Dean's book too. There is an overwhelming group of powerful forces out to screw Bush and elect Kerry--it's getting very dicey!!

7. I'd love to see the expression on their faces when they
find out that both Bob Woodward and Mike Wallace are Republicans.
Anybody whose ever read "All the President's Men" or seen the move knows that. Mike Wallace has stated publicly in interviews that he leads towards the GOP. (It's also a well-known fact in Washington political and journalistic circles.)

12. It's in the book "All the President's Men"
Also in the movie. If you've either read the book or seen the movie, he point-blank states that he's a Republican.

Towards the end of my tenure in the U.S. Government, I worked with the Washington press corps. It's well known that Mike Wallace is a GOP-er (but not of the right-wing variety).

depicting an interview Woodward and Bernstein conducted with Hugh Sloan (portrayed by Stephen Collins). Collins says "I've always considered myself a loyal Republican" (or words to that effect), and Woodward replies, "Me, too."

42. I have heard that about Woodward for years... indeed there
may be references to it in All the President's Men. It is how he got access to various insiders to even begin to start to smell a story in Watergate. It would also explain his immediate closeness to this particular administration - in the sense that the insiders (lower in the chain) in the Nixon (and then Ford) White Hosue - have risen to prominance - many now in the Bush white house. In that sense he has long-standing relationships with many of these folks.

Had NEVER heard that, however, about Mike Wallace, in fact I believe I had heard the opposite about Wallace (that he leans left.)

At the most, they should be in Club Fed. That site should've been shut down when The Washington Post filed suit against them a few years back; then they'd start whining, bitching and screaming about First Amendment rights.

It wouldn't surprise me one iota if some of these nut bars aren't behind the threats former Assistant Attorney General Jamie Gorelick has been receiving (How intelligent: Threating a former Assistant AG -- talk about being on a fast track for admission to a Federal penitentiary). The FBI must be having a field day with them.

Just my two cents.

If I recall correctly, they were not as gung-ho about the Iraq war because they know that folks get killed in them. Many remember WWII, Korea and Vietnam. They will be appalled at the prospect that Bush was conniving with a foreign power to influence the election.

We must watch all sites reporting on oil production from now on in. If there's any hint of Saudis raising output, we must blitz the media and our politicians about it. That is if the Saudis can really up their production much. It is a controversial issue in the oil world.

19. More pearls of wisdom
See-BS can't even generate 10 million viewers for 60 minutes these days, which only adds up to about 4 to 5 % of the population. I also cannot recall going in to work on Monday and hearing everyone chattering over who or what 60 Minutes had on. In fact, very few people even know or care that 60 minutes broadcasts anymore. Now ask most men about the NBA, NASCAR or the PGA and you'll be buisy in conversation for as long as you can stand it.

As far as the likes of these leftist authors who are writing all these books, their combined readers don't equal one days audience of Emeril's happy chef show.

The majority of voters or TV viewers are evenly spread over 500 channels of viewing frenzy these days. The general public is getting sick and tired of all the demagoguery coming from the left and the 911 Commission drone is putting anyone who cares to sleep or sending them outside to go fishing, camping or golfing.

The President's numbers are very steady among polls that aren't stacked or slanted to the left, and the general public is even more suspicious of the media than ever before.

To put it simply, stop the hyper-ventillating and the sky-is-falling rant so the less informed FReepers on this forum can have a better day.

His first book was flattering to the president. My guess is that the Prez thought this one would be as well.

...the damning thing was that we let Bandar see the war plans, and that we made a deal with Bandar to manipulate the oil markets vis a vis the November elections.

This better be untrue, or the President is in trouble. The american people will not tolerate the Saudis meddling in our affairs.

That is what I find most upsetting. GWB keeps things close to the vest, so I suspect it's anonymous sources who are embellishing this. The media is eating this up and lest anyone miss 60 Minutes, Woodward will appear on The Today Show and Hardball tomorrow (that I've heard thus far).

The narrative he has is damaging--he has buttressed the "Bush is a God nut", "Bush is Cheney's puppet" and "a reckless cowboy." Woodward has mentioned a couple of times that the "Constitution doesn't say that..." he is using rhetoric that suggests the Articles of Impeachment should be prepared.

All things being equal, I wish Woodward was never close enough to be able to write this book.

Bush's poll numbers are going down. The media smear campaign has been very successful. And it's only April.

...every day another shoe drops. The anti-Bush campaign is operating on all cynliders and the pro-Bush campaign is stalling out. This is getting dispiriting.

Respectfully, we DO need this shit right now. Now is better than October. Why would you think that THIS overwhelming group of powerful forces out to screw Bush is any worse than THE LAST GROUP of powerful forces out to screw Bush?

Hey, you don't get it. When people do inexplicably stupid self mutilating acts like the Bushies have done-- I am left shaking my head!! Sue me, for being appropriately alarmed when people I have so much invested in do no-brainer stuff.

Mid-April is important. The constant drumbeat "Bush-knew-he's-after-oil-no-wmd-Cheney's-puppet" is powerful. The repetition of it is seriously damaging.

Unfortunately, the GOP apparatus is content to go gentle into that Goodnight. We have no 527s, we have a lousy communication apparatus, and the New Tone suicide strategy is still in operation. I am in awe! Anybody who cares about Dubya's relection should be sufficiently concerned about the trends.

Democratic Underground is running a thread about this thread. They just LOVE you - you make them think that this Woodward crap is important.

37. This "anti-Bush campaign".
That was priceless. Don't they see it is his own actions and non-actions that have caused the problems? It's a classic narcisssitic, rightwing attitude... every time something bad is reported about the GOP or Bush, they scream about the messenger... they can't really refute this stuff. I love hearing them attack the news agencies if they say anything truthfully unflattering to the emperor. The saddest thing about these goobers, is that they are probably living paycheck to paycheck, barely scraping by, yet they are supporting the very people that have doomed them to a life of poverty and ignorance.

What many people on this thread don't realize is that there are many people that will be affected by Woodward's tales. I'm not, but I understand that they can be damaging. Some people are so divorced from reality that they don't get that everyone isn't exposed to the information they are. Imagine a person who doesn't listen to talk radio, doesn't go on FR, doesn't go to Drudge and doesn't get Fox News in their hometown. How do they process this Woodward interview and book?

66. They're real big on the vengeance and smiting quotes, aren't they?
At least you figure they ought to know what it means when you tell them that Bush is reaping the whirlwind right now.

That one, along with a number of others over there, sounds like a troll. I could be wrong.

35. OMG.. they are so delusional and pathetic!
Where do I begin? NOW they say Woodward is a liberal mouthpiece? What happened to all the love from his last book? 60 Minutes is a liberal mouthpiece? Really? Corporate whore news companies are now liberal mouthpieces? Hmmm... I think the funniest thing about these morans, is that they are damning themselves by being pissed that Woodward got the info... They know that Bush is cooked.. and they're blaming the messenger! They seem very scared.. very very scared. I was waiting for them to really attack Powell, which they will, but I couldn't stomach much more of their drivel. Oh.. the uneducated, unwashed masses.. if ONLY we had some balance in D.C., then we'd see a REAL impeachment trial! Bush and Cheney fucked up big time.

"To: jwalsh07
No, the damning thing was that we let Bandar see the war plans, and that we made a deal with Bandar to manipulate the oil markets vis a vis the November elections.

This better be untrue, or the President is in trouble. The american people will not tolerate the Saudis meddling in our affairs."

52. Another startling revelation from Freeper land....

that is true - this WH has no media strategy, no war room, etc. They rely on Rush and Hannity to do that for them.

54. So strange- it seems like they're not concerned with
whether or not the book is accurate, only that it's damaging to the cult leader.

That's just so odd... they put their party before the country, before the truth, even before themselves. If Kerry did half of what Bush has done, I'd be rooting for impeachment.
