Currently the book under examination is House of Bush, House of Saud. One thing I had forgotten, during the Iran Hostage situation, it was rumored that the bin Laden family provided the jet in which the hostages were flown out of Iran.

That start me thinking about how the same names connected with the Republican party keep cropping up over the last 40 years. Frank Sturgis, etc. All the way back to the JFK and Dallas. Makes you wonder doesn’t it. Maybe the conspiracy theorist might be touching very close to some truth.

1. Yes, we tinfoil hatters are correct.
It's the willfully ignorant violent denialists that will be proven absurdly wrong by history.

Tinfoil hatters are the only ones with enough courage to seek the truth.

2. They did?
Jeez, I probably had never heard of the bin Ladens back then. I mostly remember my mother calling me at work that day, totally pissed off and telling me that Ray-goon had probably set up the whole thing to upstage Carter.

Of course, it was only four years later that Rumsferatu was in Baghdad, glad handing good ol' Saddam and selling him WMD.

The conspiracy theorists provide much food for thought.

3. Every book that is currently being written
reveals some forgotten name...when put together it presents a damn mosaic that is pretty scary. I find myself saying "naw, that could be...."

4. I just finished a book....
...that had a very unforgotten name, LOL. Not scary, though, but ironic to read it.

Much about the book scared the bejesus out of me, because it showed how we working stiffs are screwed without being kissed.

"October: American, Iranian, and Saudi Arabian representatives conduct secret negotiations in Paris on the fate of the U.S. hostages. The decision, known in some circles as the "October Surprise," is made to delay release of the hostages until after the American elections, in hopes of ensuring a victory by GOP candidate Ronald Reagan. Among those involved in the negotiations are Vice-Presidential candidate George H.W. Bush, future CIA director William Casey, Henry Kissinger, and Salem bin Laden, Osama's older brother and an intimate friend of King Fahd. Reagan hints at a "secret plan" to free the hostages. Although details of the meeting remain shrouded in secrecy, most expert observers believe that the GOP representatives promise to end the American arms embargo against Iran if that country will free the hostages after the election."

On edit: It seems to be more speculation than proven fact. I found a more cautious presentation of the same story, which says, "Salem bin Laden, Osama's oldest brother, is later described by a French secret intelligence report as one of the two closest friends of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd. As such, he often performs important missions for Saudi Arabia. The French report speculates that he is involved in secret Paris meetings between US and Iranian emissaries this month. Frontline, which published the French report, notes that such meetings have never been confirmed. Rumors of these meetings have been called the “October Surprise” and some have speculated Bush Sr. negotiated in these meetings a delay to the release of the US hostages in Iran, thus helping Ronald Reagan and Bush win the 1980 Presidential election."
