Here it is...Rice says Terror attacks before November
USA Today

Rice: Terror possible before November
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is bracing for possible terrorist attacks before the November presidential election, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said Sunday.
.......<snip>

The opportunity for terrorists to try to influence the election, as was the case last month in Spain, appears to be an opportunity that would "be too good to pass up for them," Rice said.

"I think that we do have to take very seriously the thought that the terrorists might have learned, we hope, the wrong lesson from Spain," Rice told Fox News Sunday.

"I think we also have to take seriously that they might try during the cycle leading up to the election to do something," she said.

"We are actively looking at that possibility, actively trying to see — to make certain that we are responding appropriately," she said.

Jose Maria Aznar, outgoing prime minister of Spain and a strong U.S. ally in the war in Iraq, says he has warned President Bush that he believes terrorists will try to affect the U.S. election as they did in Spain.

Newspaper reports from Spain said Moratinos hopes to show U.S. officials that Spain wants to maintain its current good relations with the United States and that the minister will offer nonmilitary cooperation in Iraq, such as training of police, as an alternative to having Spanish soldiers in the country.

1. Okay.
So is this a fear tactic? Or is Rice saying that this will happen and the brave George of the Jungle is incapable of doing anything about it?

5. Of COURSE it's a fear tactic-it's also a "Terrorists want you to vote
for Kerry" tactic. She comes right out and says it: voting Bush out would be the "wrong lesson". God, I hope the American public is smart enough to see through this bullshit.

4. More than a fear attack
If the Saudi government was willing to throw away billions of dollars in oil profit to influence the American election, perhaps they'd be just as willing to finance another Bin Laden operation.

7. Why isn't anyone asking her about her plans to prevent such attacks?
Why isn't the media calling Rice and Ridge to the carpet, right this very minute? Has the NSA received intelligence that indicates such attacks? In other words, specific information about al-Qaeda attacks staged to disrupt the American elections? Why hasn't the terror alert been raised? Shouldn't we be looking for the perpetrators of these attacks?

Or, is she just commenting on a lark, as hunch? And if so, should she not be roundly criticized?

20. Obviously the people have not yet given up enough..
of their freedom so that the leaders may protect them.

"There are only two kinds of politics. The politics of fear: 'you are encircled by monstrous dangers, give us power over your freedom so we may protect you'. And the politics of trust: 'the world is a baffling and hazerdous place, but it can be shaped to the will of men...'"

Terrorists are bad. They don't like Bush. Therefore, Bush is good. :puke:

Indeed, this could be a precursor to yet another LIHOP ... an encore of "fight terror by going shopping" would be "fight terror by voting for Dim Son."

13. They are running out of other options, so if they are desperate...
a terrorist attack prior to elections would do the trick.

However, if Spain's elections are any gauge, it could easily backfire unless they time it so that they can call off the elections.

15. Bush needs terrorists to influence the elecion, 'cause its his only chance
That is really pathetic.

Essentially, they are saying that terrorists want you to vote Democratic.

Fuck these sleazy assholes.

Terrorists DID NOT influence the decision of the Spanish people.

Bush's only chance in hell is a terror attack so he can cancel elections.

16. Heck, it doesn't matter WHEN the next "attack" happens . . .
.
.
.

The WH will have some sort of "spin" on it for sure!

And the terrarists will do it whenever they can,

I don't really believe they'll wait for what the US thinks is a "most likely" time.

Just out of curiosity,

Was Sept. 11 2001 a significant date in any way prior to the attack?

23. September 11 was the anniversary of the Camp David accord
signed by Israel and Egypt in 1979. It seems like there may have been something else significant to that date, but I can't recall right now. Of course, September 11 (or, 911) is code for 'emergency' as well.

I'd tend to the lean toward the LIHOP/MIHOP.

22. in what direction do the terrorists want to influence the elections?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 01:55 PM by rman
Another attack could well be reason for Bush to declare martial law, cancel the elections and grant himself absolute power. Do the terrorists want more of Bush? "Bring 'm on"?

If they want Bush to lose the elections by doing another attack, then this administration should be very motivated to prevent this attack. Then again a prevented attack can easily be forged and even if real, the press and people might be sceptical.

Moreover: what does Condi think the terrorists want wrt to the elections?
