What does everyone think of Woodward now?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 12:59 AM by neoteric lefty
I have been away for a few days, so I had to catch up with the news about Woodward's new book. I remember the days before excerpts were released, many DUers were calling him a shill for the administration and other negative statements. I'll be honest and tell you that I have not read everything out there today about Woodward's book yet, but I am in the process. Has anyone's opinions changed about Bob Woodward?

Just wondering :)

3. i thought woodward was whitewashing it
thought it would end up making bush look good. i dont know now. sounds like he got a lot of good stuff out. so without watching 60 minutes and not reading the book yet, i will say i was wrong and am pleasantly and excitedly surprised.

4. I'm still suspicious...
The 700million, Bandar and Oil Price Fixing revelations were HUGE, however it really depends on how it plays out. I can easily see this book working in such a way as to absolve * directly and allow the WH to decide on the fall guys (Tenet is clearly one). For us, * religious fanatcism is appalling but it can easily be portrayed positively by the media whores. A man of God, listening to his advisers and ultimately, doing what he felt was God's will. I'm not holding my breath for * to take the fall for any of it (at least not until election day).

5. After "Bush At War," I thought Woodward was a sellout, but...
Reckon that was an elaborate con to get the goods on the bastard? I don't really know.

7. Maybe, just maybe...
...Woodward has no agenda one way or another? I know that's a hard thing to consider in this day and age, but the impression I get from him is that he's a centrist-Republican who isn't afraid to dish the dirt.

His 60 Minute interview wasn't as damning as Clarke's, but it certainly wasn't full of praise either.

8. In the interview it seemed like he tried to pin it all on Tenet
saying that tenet said it (Iraq) was a slam dunk connection, and convincing Bush...so I'm skeptical about that.

9. He is one of the greatest reporters this country has ever had. Period.
If only for keeping Watergate alive and contributing to Nixon's downfall as a 20-something chasing a story nearly nobody else wanted. Seriously, the story would have gone away if the Post had not kept it alive until the special prosecutor and the Sam Ervin committee got on it.

I think "bush at war" was a set up.
it made the * administration comfortable telling him about atrocious things done in the nameof the *kingship."
he may yet wind up with a second presidential pelt on his lodgepole.
