What have you done since you heard the Woodward charges?
I posted this under another discussion but I'm really wanting answers.

If nothing comes of the latest charges against this administration we all might as well quit voting. If any sane, intelligent person can look at just 4 of the things and not call for his impeachment I will just give up. I've e-mailed all my congress critters and some news organizations AND called. I've never done that on anything before to this degree.

They impeached a president for lying about a sexual tryst.

But we're talking about misappropriation of funds: $700,000,000

Collusion with a foreign government to lower gas prices to influence an election.

Showing plans that are clearly marked NO FOREIGN.

And the still out there charges of outing a CIA agent for purely political gain.

All impeachable offenses, all heinous crimes against the United States.

I'm beside myself. I don't care what political persuasion you are. If you can condone or justify any of this, we are lost. Bush will have his Armageddon and we can sit back and wait for it.

If everyone on this board HASN'T e-mailed and/or called reps/senators/news about it, then this is just another message board full of fluff on the internet that has no meaning.

1. You're absolutely right,
and it amazes me that people aren't out in the streets demanding his immediate resignation or impeachment. I'm getting more and more frustrated with the American public and I don't think I can take much more. A little illicit sex and they go crazy, but things like this, and they couldn't care less. SICKENING! His poll numbers should be FORTY BELOW ZERO by now!

I asked my husband the same question. What can we do?

I'm going to work very hard to defeat Bush in November. I am going to write letters to our local paper (extremely right wing bent)and call my representatives regarding these latest insights.

How many people have to write a book before others wake up and take notice? I'm disappointed that there isn't any public statement from either of my senators so far (but its early out here in CA).

Robert Byrd. It doesn't do any good to talk to people here in Texas. You only get form letters back. Oh, and I sent an e-mail to Jim Leach.

8. Please, back up those emails with snail letters!
While it gets it off your chest, and that counts for something, email is easily discarded. SNAIL MAIL is not ignorable, and gets filed.

Also, snail mail can be brought in while speechifying to back up the push for action.

I know it's more effort, but this is the time that effort counts for much!

14. snail mail used to be the best
because astroturfing is so easy with e-mail, but now with all of the anthrax, ricin, etc. testing, I've heard that a lot of snail mail never even gets opened.

20. Best to make sure your return address is on it. AND -
I read that a GREAT way to send snail mail to Congress is to send it simply on a piece of paper that's folded three ways (as if to fit in a conventional envelope), and then taped just at the bottom, with the address filled out on the outside. REASON IS: Anyone can see inside that it's a simple piece of folded paper with nothing evil hidden within.

Snail mail still is the best. But it's just important that you do SOMETHING!!!!! SOMETHING!!!!! ANYTHING!!!!!!!! The only thing that doesn't work at all is the apathy part, or the sitting-on-yer-butt-and-assuming-somebody-else-will-take-care-of-it part.

5. Are those points really impeachable offenses?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 10:36 AM by Catt03
Just because it sounds illegal does not mean it is. Just because it sounds like a Constitution issue does not mean it is either.

As I understand it, the presidents job is to work with leaders of other countries to get the best deals for America. I don't think it is accepted as unusual or unethical for the president of US to discuss oil prices and try to get a concession for lower prices. As for the election part, I don't know about that. I am betting that it is not considered a big deal in Washington.

As for the 700M, I understand that it was for "the theater of war" explained to be Afghanistan and anything added to this theater. Irag was added and it all comes under Tommy Franks and what he thinks is needed. It is a spin but I don't think it is illegal.

I am just sugggesting information that needs research before we declare it impeachable offense. I may be wrong but what I might think is unethical and sneaky, as the above points,
is not necessarily considered unconstitutional.

You know, it is Congress that has to take some responsibility too. You can't con vice me that this is all news to members of the US Congress. Why haven't they attacked this before Woodward's book revelations?

13. It may turn out to be technically legal...
...but it stinks and it clearly shows off "honest and upstanding Dubya"'s very real and very dirty bait-and-switch tactics. It it wasn't illegat, it ought to be.

Congress shouldn't be let off the hook, but but let's not let's not let holding their feet to the fire get in the way of putting Shrubs dogs on the barby...

10. Thanks for the snail mail! That's what will be effective!
Please, back up those emails to all the Congresscritters you emailed.

It doesn't have to be a different letter... compose one letter, and copy it to all. Yes, it's more effort, but counts for much more, and this is important enough to make the effort.

You can be SURE they're getting snail mail from the freepers, because they understand how important a real letter is, so this is one time we must make that effort!

Thanks!

Kanary

If Americans don't vote to get the Repubs out of office, this is what we will continue to get. We deserve it.

16. You're right, BUT...
Part of that is because the Republicans have, for many years, been mobilizing their minions to..

TAKE ACTION!

You can bet the freepers are sending out letters right now, supporting their gawd-fearin' pres.

So, we can either bemoan the unfairness of it all, or pull out all the stops and write tons of letters, and spread the word to everyone we can reach to do likewise.

If you write 10 letters to Congress, and get 3 other people to do likewise, it won't ruin your day, and it will have a HUGE effect.

This is our opportunity..... it's been handed to us on a silver platter, and we need to take advantage of it.

Write!

Call!

Thanks for your efforts!

11. Here's what I've done... Writing tons of letters...
to everyone I can think of in federal government. EVERYONE. Unfortunately, I'm saddled with freeper Sentors, but... if they get stacks of letters calling for impeachment, it will have an effect. We MUST.

I've emailed everyone I can think of, letting them know Congress is getting flooded with calls for impeachement, and urging them to quit griping, and start writing. We need letters from everyone!

I'm writing letters to the editor, to inform people of the charges, and to let people know that they aren't alone in their anger and can do something about it.

I'm also going to go back to the Whispering Campaign... print up little cards with the charges on them, the phone number for Congress, and urge people to take action.

We HAVE to give people an avenue for their anger, and we have to do it now, while the iron is hot.

Thanks for ALL your efforts!

I know that I can't afford all the stamps, but this time I'll have to find $$ in sofa cushions or something.

12. It seems to me that most people...
don't really care about anything outside their little personal world, except for one thing: other peoples' sex lives. That is why Clinton's affair got such a reaction, but Bush's actions have gotten scarcely a whisper.

17. don't forget the flip side of point #3

Collusion with a foreign government to lower gas prices to influence an election.

They could just as easily collude with a foreign government to RAISE gas prices to influence an election. In fact, they probably did when Carter was in office.

19. Listened to Limbaugh this morning - HE SAID THE WORD "ASS" !!!
I listened to Rush Limbaugh this morning to see what he had to say, if anything, about the Bob Woodward book and 60 Minutes interview. Limbaugh actually said the following: "George Bush has worked his ass off protecting this country." He said the word "ass" on the local Clear Channel station. How is it that a blowhard like Limbaugh can get away with the use of this word but Howard Stern gets nailed?

By the way, he said there was "nothing controversial" in the Woodward book.
