Evidence Fails to Support Bush as Christian
I'm a Christian - not the best one around - but a Christian.

Christians pray. We pray, essentially, in 3 modes:

"You are great, God, and I adore you."
"Thanks, God, for everything."
"I am sorry God, help me do better."

Most of us sinners spend the vast majority of time on number 3. We examine our consciences, to see where we have gone astray. We listen to that little inner voice (ours? God's?) to tell us how to do better.

Now we have a man who claims to be a Christian who prays all the time, to God.

I really try not to judge others, and fail all the time. In fact, it's one of the things I share in my prayers.

Like most other Christians, I listen to sermons, pray alone and with others, and read the Bible.

I constantly ponder my mistakes - and try to do better.

So, the question "Placton, have you made any mistakes?" is an easy one to answer. I think of them at least once a week.

Am I a better person, or Christian, than Bush? I don't know. I believe a higher power (the one Bush claims to be on such close terms with) will let me know after I die.

But it's really hard for me to believe Bush EVER prays in the way all other Christians are taught.

I guess I will pray for forgiveness for that next Sunday. Because I, unlike George Bush, remember my mistakes all the time.

1. Excellent post.
Thank you. Perhaps there cannot be morality without reflection/prayer.

8. The Scripture Says...
When a man's ways please the Lord, God makes even that man's enemies to be at peace with him. (Verse forgotten).

One look at Bush Inc and how the world feels about him, and you know his ways displease the Lord.

Bush is a curse, a Jonah who needs to be thrown overboard to keep afloat.

2. Doesn't it say somewhere that they will be judged by their fruits?
Seems GW has an endless stream of dead bodies as evidence of his sojourn on our planet.

3. The difference is - are you mentally healthy?
In the hands of the mentally healthy - religion and spiritually are a life enhancing practice.

In the hands of the mentally impaired, religion - like anything else - becomes a narcotic that will be used to disassociate and destroy.

I actually agree with Marx' dictum "Religion is the opiate of the masses." He was a political writer, and was speaking IMHO about the use of religion by politicians. Like Bush.

Sorry about the mis-spelling of Karl's name.

Actually, it was Karl Marx and he was referring to the threat religion posed to Communism as religion pulled on the loyalties of the people.

The difference is that you have humility...
and you appear not to be arrogant, un-magnanimous, delusional and it appears you contemplate and analyze how you need to live your life.

6. There are Christians or spiritual people and then there are ZEALOTS!
George Bush and his "religious right" buddies are zealots...They are cut from the same cloth as the Muslim extremists who do the suicide bombing attacks...and every bit as dangerous...IMO

9. Not so much zealots
as people who have NO idea what the founder of our religion called the world to:
-peace
-understanding
-love

etc.
