Joe Wilson will release a book naming the White House advisors he blames for ruining the careers of CIA operatives, including Valerie Plame, Joe Wilson’s wife ... www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4632857/
-snip- At the end of April, Ambassador Joe Wilson will release a book naming the White House advisors he blames for ruining the careers of CIA operatives, including Valerie Plame, Joe Wilson’s wife. Wilson’s story began when Vice President Dick Cheney sent him to Niger to investigate a claim of Uranium being shipped to Iraq. Wilson determined the claim was unfounded, but the President’s State of the Union speech before the war included it anyway. After Wilson publicly criticized the speech, the White House retaliated, and a federal grand jury is now trying to determine who in the administration leaked his wife’s identity to reporters and whether the case warrants criminal charges. -snip-

7. It would be nice if some of this was saved for October |

Any gains made now could be short-lived.

Too much coming out close to the election would surely be spun as partisan attacks to affect the election by the media. Plame Indictments are the best bet to impact the public longterm. Books are one thing but official criminal charges are another thing entirely.

3. Not just ruined careers, but a ruined intelligence network which tracked |

trafficking of dangerous materials desired by terrorist groups for making weapons. Let us NEVER forget that whoever outed Ms. Plame and her associates made the world much less safe by thwarting the efforts of intelligence people doing the very thing the malAmdimistration is now trying to hang them for 'failure' to do.
Do they hang or shoot traitors?

6. Did they out other CIA operatives? |
|
The only actual CIA operative I thought they outed was Plame. According to the article, it looks like they outed other CIA operatives as well. I wonder why they were outed. Were they whistle blowers?

...they also outed those people in foreign governments who had been known to consort with her about weapons of mass destruction-related activities. It is probable that any such persons were killed after her named was leaked.

11. If I recall the original story correctly |
|
outing Plame also outed the shadow organization she worked for, which was a consulting firm that not only she used for cover. There were several operatives employed by this consulting firm, so they not only blew her cover, but also ruined the ability of the intelligence community to use the firm, and by association outed other agents.

Pre-order it at www.barnesandnoble.com and give it a bump. It's the least we can do for the guy. His wife was in danger because he told the truth.

15. Sorry - This book will have little impact |
|
The Joe Wilson story is old news. If all he can do in his new book is claim that Rove or Scooter Libby outed Plame, it will be a big yawn. Wilson has already stated that he believes Rove is behind the leaks. If Clarke's or Woodward's books don't ruin Bush's credibility (based on today's polls), Wilson does not stand a chance. All of this could change of course if the justice dept. prosecutor looking into this case indicts Rove, Card, Rice, etc.

17. This book is going to sell like hotcakes and will be a "must read" for |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 01:47 AM by w4rma
folks interested in the inner workings of politics, imho.
Mr. Bush's outing of many CIA operatives is an impeachable offense and at the very least a 10 year felony for treason, if Bush did it, himself. And since noone in his administration has been held accountable (and fired, then imprisoned) this story is only just beginning.
I could not disagree more with you CityDem.

No matter what comes out it gets spin by Bushco and the media and melts away like a blue snowcone in the hot summer sun. I am now thinking that the only thing that can stop Bushco is a real erosion in Iraq and massive American deaths. By August we will know. Anything else seems to bounce off of them like nerve balls on a freaky clown.

22. Then shouldn't the indictments be coming this week or next? |
|
I would think if the book is gonna name the perps, that the indictments would be handed down prior to it's release. Maybe there will be something to life everyone's spirits in this next 10 days.
