Bill Hicks is
#19 on comedy centrals list of 100 best stand ups.

He should have been higher, but at least they put him on there.

2. What was strange was that they thought Dennis Miller was still funny
There were a lot of dead comics on that list which should have rated higher than the Right-wing flagwaver. Even dead, they're funnier than he is now.

3. I love Bill Hicks, but.....
I always thought it was unfortunate that his scream resembled Sam Kinison's so closely, so that when he would scream in his act, instead of carrying a great emotional weight, it simply reminded me of Kinison (who was a chea,p, fat ugly-spirited bigot).

Still, I think Hicks rates a LOT higher that #19. For me, he's just behind Bruce, Carlin, Pryor and Steve Martin.

5. I was wondering where/if he would show up...
My personal favorite comedian of the last 30 years, but at least he made the top 20...

I sure wish Bill was still around...we could REALLY use him these daze! (Noone was better at poking holes at Bush 1!).

7. quote
"the reason I didn't vote for bush is because he sided with reagen, who's policy toward south america included genocide. so you see the reason I didn't vote for him is because he's a mass murderer."

8. I thought he should be higher too (top 10 at least), but
maybe part of the selection criteria was popularity? If that's the case, Hicks remains relatively unknown in American society in general. We can't even get DVD or video copies of his performances here (just CD).

From what I understand, Hicks was huge in England (and still has a big following). Had he received the attention he should have here in America, he'd probably be up there in the public's mind with Carlin and Pryor.

10. "American Scream" is a good bio, if that's what you ordered
I tried to order a Hicks DVD from England but was warned by the British company that it probably wouldn't play on an American DVD player. :-(

Did you find a DVD that will play on American players? If so, please let me know!

11. A true genius

I wish he were here to tell it like it is in his own unique way. It's true, only the good die young.

Beyond that, his work should be MANDATORY listening to any young progressive. Truly great perspective.

13. That's pretty freaking high for a cult comic
Bill Hicks was hysterical, but I'd never heard any of his material until about 4 years ago. And I actually try to find artists like him.
