He's the "Simple President" for those who think in "simple" terms.
For those who like easy answers to complex problems and those who like slogans and cowboy talk instead of visions that could improve the country.

From a nice article on DU, long time ago.

America in the Tank; Americans Say Bush for Intergalactic Czar
by Warren Pease

"And, perhaps most incredible of all, 60 percent say they think George W. Bush understands the problems of average Americans. This may, in fact, be true, since Bush clearly understands what it's like to be an idiot. But I doubt that's what respondents had in mind. A few possibilities that may explain the numbers..."

20. Wrong. Bush is living disproof of the Peter Principle.
Propelled by his birth into a rich and powerful family, he overshot his level of competence when they promoted him out of third grade.

17. the goodwill majority
in these polls exhibit the same mystifying quality as the "best dressed" lists in the ladies' journals where the First Lady almost always gets top ranking no matter how god awful her taste in clothes is. This is part of the "mush" factor which at best means people aren't engaged enough really to care one way or the other so they say what think everyone else would say to a question they can't really judge. The presumed PC answer from someone not angry and who does not want to show anger.

It takes an awful lot publicized and much much more than one would ever calculate to unite most of the people to face a terrible reality. Violence or a simple catastrophe might do this. Speech contests and ad wars just confuse them. Media is not as pervasively effective as one might imagine except on pounding reality into mush in the first place and keeping people distracted.

10. "Isn't that Special ?" of Dana Carvey at SNL. How pertaining and apt.
This Moran is Hilarious if people weren't dying, our troops, the innocent civilians, the animals, the old and irreplacable historic structures, etc.
Our Special Prez will go down in History for our descendents to look at with puzzlement and awe of the stupidity; akin to our awe that we bled our first President to death in the false hopes of curing him.

Keeping it simple for the liberals

Apr. 19, 2004 12:00 AM

After listening to President Bush on prime time I finally came to an understanding of his speech: He keeps it simple for terrorists and liberals to understand. He must repeat in simplest of terms so the simplest minds will understand. Clinton's flowery words impressed simple minds, confusing liberals with lies. Now, when one speaks the truth, liberals are outraged.

Here are simple truths for simple minds: Americans are at war. Environmentalists are killing our forests with lawsuits. When a woman chooses to have a baby it is not a crime. Sexual tendencies are influenced by environment. Taxes restrict the development of the middle class.

Critically thinking minds respond: President Bush will not waver on the war against terrorism. Our forests must be cleaned up by competent people. When a woman chooses to have a child and her fetus is attacked, it is an attack against a person. Homosexuality should not be an influencing factor in schools. Taxes burden people and small businesses.

Liberals respond: Hatred! -James Bingham, Glendale

We need only to review the tape when informed of the 2nd attack on the WTC. Bush was stupified, continued to read to the kids for 20 minutes.

Last Tues at his Press Con, when asked if he had made mistakes, he was almost paralyzed with lock jaw.

16. My major complaint with *
is his simplistic mindset. Every rotten stinking thing that has happened in this country for the past 3.5 years has been because of simplistic thinking.

Just goes to show that wealth and prviledge do indeed protect the idiotic. I see exactly the execess and just plain idiocy that the French Revolution got rid of.

22. plus his contempt for the complex ...
I know plenty of people who are "simple" but are genuinely interested when faced with something novel or mysterious. They are a joy to talk to because once something is explained to them in straightforward terms, they honestly don't see why people would not be entertained by supernovas, or dinosaur physiology, or weather patterns.

Bush acts not only as if he's afraid, but downright disapproving of things beyond his ken. He even tries to simplify religious and spiritual matters -- "if you're not with us you're against us", or "he's an evildoer".
