Wanna help me interview Henry Waxman?
I'm flying to DC tomorrow for a Wednesday on-camera interview with Rep. Waxman which we will run on truthout soon. If you'd like to have any questions asked, put them below.

1. I would like to know if he believes Clarke and if so does he tie Cheney's
energy task force to the Iraq war in any way.

2. Does he think the Cheney energy meetings outlined any foreign policy plans
And if they did, would Cheney be able to legally exclude them from disclosure?

3. ?
Does he think that there is any possibility that the Bush administration could be preparing to plant WMD in Iraq.

Does he think that Bush drove intelligence to find evidence that supported an invasion.

If so, is it because Bush was sure they existed or because he had another reason to get Hussein.

25. I wouldn't ask that
since NORAD didn't "stand down" They weren't prepared, but they did try to intercept.

26. Well I would ask it....
...their excuses for their actions that day are as lame as *'s....but it's all irrelevant now since there's such an extensive investigation underway and they were ORDERED to tell the *truth* already.....I guess I must be some kind of imbicile to keep askin' such redundant questions?! :eyes:

8. I would like to know if he's aware of Peak Oil and its effect on policy.
I think that's what's driving everything. I'm very concerned that no one is really planning for it, either.

How does he manage, given that he works under the same budget and time constraints as everyone else in Congress, to produce so much timely, thorough research and so many detailed plans of action?

Please thank him for his outstanding public service to me and to all American citizens.

Edited to add an -s.

10. Ask him for an update on this:
http://www.hillnews.com/news/021104/waxman.aspx

California Democrat Henry Waxman is calling on Attorney General John Ashcroft to reveal who cleared members of Osama bin Laden’s family and other Saudi citizens to leave the country immediately following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Citing press accounts and congressional testimony on the issue, Waxman says the public “needs reassurance” that the Bush administration conducted an “appropriate investigation” of the Saudis that were allowed to leave.

“If such investigation did not occur, the public deserves to know why,” Waxman said. The lawmaker, the ranking Democrat on the House Government Reform Committee, has been increasingly active in his minority oversight role.

A committee aide said Waxman decided to send the letter now “because there was never any satisfactory answer” on the questions that were out there.

Waxman asked for the identity of all Saudi citizens allowed to leave in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, specifically inquiring about Abdullah and Omar bin Laden.

In his letter, he argued that bin Laden’s family members may have had both general or specific information on the al Qaeda terrorist network, including the terrorist leader’s whereabouts

Ask him about Woodward on 60 Minutes and if there will be any investigations into the issues he raised, particularly the one about misuse of funds.

13. HEY!!! the money! it's all about the MONEY! the 700 million for Iraq
is that story already killed by the WH denials?

this, according to threads here yesterday, was a CLEAR violation of that Anti-Deficiency act.......a FELONY!

they've skipped lightly over it in the news, and there isn't much written about it, specifically, that I've found, but it's definitely a fricking FELONY to do what they did, if the initial charges are correct.

and Waxman's the ONE to pursue this.

I can't find ANYTHING linking Iraq to the Anti Deficiency Act, written in 74, cause of what Nixon pulled.

congress was PISSED, and didn't want it to happen again

what does Waxman know about this?

I clicked onto a snip at Crossfire about a bunch of dems calling for impeachment, then a bit about the 700 million; assuming it was related to that.....what's the deal?

20. Who is going to ask for a GAO report on the $700 million?
http://www.washingtontimes.com/business/20040415-105755-3366r.htm

The Defense Department's budget is in such a state of chaos, he < General Accounting Office chief David M. Walker> said he has refused to sign off on the Pentagon's audit and would give the government's largest agency a "D-minus" for transparency and accountability to the public.

Anti-Deficiency Act

Sec. 1341. - Limitations on expending and obligating amounts

(a)(1) An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government may not -

(A) make or authorize an expenditure or obligation exceeding an amount available in an appropriation or fund for the expenditure or obligation;

Sec. 1350. - Criminal penalty

An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government knowingly and willfully violating section 1341(a) or 1342 of this title shall be fined not more than $5,000, imprisoned for not more than 2 years, or both

16. Boxers or briefs?
Just kidding. :)

Seriously. I like most of the other questions people have mentioned but I have one of my own to add. I'd like to know if the Party has any sort of coherent strategy for taking back the Congress...cause if they do I sure ain't seeing it from my vantage point.

17. Ask him if he feels supported by the Democratic party in his inquiries
He's issued some hard hitting press releases and letters and does not seem to be backed as fiercely by Dems as he could be.
It would be interesting to hear his take on the shape of the party.

18. Since impeachment is out of the question(not enuf votes)
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 01:42 AM by revcarol
are there major lies of the administration that the House could CENSURE?

Are the Republicans as incensed as we are about the unauthorized illegal transfer of $700 million as we are? Can the GAO present evidence before a grand jury for crimnal charges?

Edit: Another question(I'm really tired so you're going to have to work on these but I hope you get the idea.) How is the investigation going on the government's use of funds to PROPAGANDIZE the senior drug plan, changes to Medicare, etc. for repug and Bush re-election?That was really sickening.:puke:

thanks, Will.:yourock:

21. This one.

Does he know any sane, honest, credible, honorable Republicans in the House who are starting to slip the Delay leash at all? (I want to know if there are any grounds to hope at all that Mr. Waxman and our other Democratic representatives could get enough a majority in the House to bring articles of impeachment against Bush.)

22. Posts 17 and 18 please
Please consider asking Representative Waxman the questions on those posts.

They are important questions to pose to a very good Democratic Representative, Henry Waxman. He has always asked the hard and important questions, to me anyway.

(thanks to the DUers who asked these questions in the first place)

23. Waxman is one of the good guys.
I'd be interested in his take on why the Democrats continually let the regime off the hook, especially with mounting evidence of their truth evil, crimes, and lies.
