I used to have some respect for CNN - now they just make me SICK
Like anyone here needs any more evidence that they're a shill for bushCo look at this article: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/19/bush.oil/index.html - then compare it with the text of the press conference here (http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2004_04_18.php#002857) at Talking Points Memo.

How can McClellan's gaggle this morning be characterized as anything BUT weasling out of the claim that there is a deal between bush & his friends in Saudia Arabia? Shouldn't the story here be that they DIDN'T deny that there is a deal in place?

Screw you, CNN - I HOPE faux shuts you down, at least with them reporting I go into a story expecting to be lied to.

1. Are they that bad?
I thought CNN was one of the more tolerable networks. Then again I work during the day...

3. They've really gotten worse
in the past few years, I think. I used to respect CNN immensely, but now it's on the same level as Faux as far as I'm concerned.

4. I really think they've gotten "that bad"
What makes it worse is that they don't wear their bias on their sleeve like fox does.

2. exactly
and they just released a new fake phony fraudulent poll showing bush at 51% Kerry 46%, this right after Bush's incredibly pathetic news conference.

5. They follow the ratings (read: Money).
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 06:26 PM by elperromagico
Faux is beating them in the ratings, so they're trying to draw a bigger audience by playing it further right.

It won't work; MSNBC tried to do the same thing when they fired Donahue (the host of their most successful show) and picked up The Savage Weiner and Joe "Dead Intern" Scarborough. The ratings haven't improved.

It's standard entertainment practice - if someone else is succeeding by doing something, copy it, copy it, copy it. And we're fooling ourselves if we think these are "news" networks. They're infotainment at best. Speculation and opinion aren't news. News is news. I can speculate and form opinions on my own.

7. I've never had much respect for CNN
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 07:14 PM by Art_from_Ark
going back to the time in 1994 when I subscribed to CNN International-- I cancelled after two months of second-rate news readers and the same 10 commercials over and over for hotels I'll never patronize. I tried again in 1996 because my cable company was offering a free two-month trial package that included CNN, but it was still the same crap, plus a goofy left-right political "debate" program featuring "On the right, I'm Dick Swagger" and "ostensibly on the left but really on the right, I'm Milk E. Toast". Then, on visits back to the States, I noticed that CNN was using all small letters in its subtitles-- like "new york", "tokyo", "usa". This gave the appearance that the major "news" network was semi-literate. Of course, the contents also left much to be desired as well, and still do. As far as I'm concerned, about the only redeeming value of CNN is local weather forecasts if you're in a foreign country whose language you don't understand.
