...all we do is complain. We need to organize a boycott of a major news network for one day. Those of us on the internet probably make a sizeable percentage of people who watch CNN and MSNBC. If we can organize a boycott, the networks will respond.... Why can the Christian Coalition and the Jewish community routinely organize boycotts, while we with a much larger percentage of the American population (at least greater 51%) cannot do the same. Let's organize a boycott of CNN. Here's how:
1. Email the DU adminstrator to get behind the idea and post this idea on the DU forum regularly to get others to get behind the idea. 2. Email you favorite blogger to get behind the idea 3. Email moveon.org to get behind the idea 4. Email Henry Waxman and other liberal Dems to get behind the idea 5. Email Ralph Nader to get behind the idea (I know he sucks, maybe he can do something useful) 6. Tell everyone you know to do the same.
Get ten people to adopt this idea in the next half hour...we can get the forum behind us right now...Let's top bitching let's do something..

Sorry, I'm a dumbass. I want to protest a news network for one day to show our power. Those of us on the internet probably make a sizeable percentage of people who watch CNN and MSNBC. If we can organize the networks will respond....

After Schneider explained how "America was rallying around their President" I switched to MSNBC today (not that any of them are brilliant) and emailed my disgust to CNN but what's one viewer to them?

I already boycotted CNN, MSNBC, and FAUX. I emailed them and told them I was doing so. We need to stop watching this crap.

9. you're individual boycott... |
|
...does not make a difference, unless if you can get others to do the same....I've outlined a plan to try to accomplish that and to get the networks to listen. It's rough and I know it can be improved, but I think this is how ideas get started. Join me, send a post a message to a forum to promote a one day boycott of the news network.

10. how on earth did you decide CNN? |
|
was that soooo obvious that you can't imagine why it isn't priority #1 with everybody?
in a way, you answered your own question. the jewish & christian groups are single-issue people - liberals are not. Meanwhile, the environmental liberals are boycotting one thing & the animal rights liberals are boycotting something else. Nobody in their (left) minds are shopping at Wal-Mart, so what the hell are you talking about.
Do you think you're filling some sort of leadership vacuum & that challenging our "weakness" is the way to get us off our lazy butts and behind... wait for it... the long-overdue CNN boycott?!
I don't even have a TV so consider me on board or whatever.

Our culture is headed full-steam in this direction, whatever it may be....if it's going over a cliff, well, I just don't think there's anything we can do about it.

At least we'll have tried. We'll get in a couple of real good "I told you so's" to the RW'ers before the bombs hit.

14. Liberals INVENTED the boycott! |
|
The thing with boycotts are there needs to be a viable reason for it. I could see boycotting say CNN if we found out that they were donating money to the RNC or receiving the daily talking points briefs from the White House that Faux receives. What I see on CNN are some of the shows lean a little to the right and some lean a little to the left. This is to be expected. Typically though, their actual news broadcasting is fairly neutral. Frankly, I like getting both sides. I like to hear what the conservatives are saying - if for no other reason than to be able to verbalize how exactly they are in error. For that reason I occassionally even flip over to Faux (although I never last long). What I have seen here (please no one throw flaming torches -- just my observation), is that people get bent out of shape if any network other than Faux has a conservative on, or reports the government's statements as news. Good reporting should piss off liberals and conservatives. Believe me - I know from having a very right wing dad -- that conservatives think CNN is so far left to be communist. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
Okay, flame away.

We need to do something productive on this message board. Let's get everyone to start promoting a boycott on say May 23rd. Let's get prominent bloggers, elected officials, and others behind us by routinely emailing them and applying pressure.

but the reality is that all we need is a concerted effort from liberal advocacy groups. Those of us on the internet may up a sizeable chink of people who watch network news. If they can see the aggregate effect of people tuning out for one day, they will more receptive to our concerns...

17. Imho, the board-members who own the big corps who own the networks |
|
could care less if their "news" outlets are boycotted. Their money is mostly made from their other (non-"news") buisnesses.
