We're doomed!
At least, I think we are. We must be. I'm reading all these threads tonight about how we're doomed on every level, so we must be doomed.

11. I don't think we're doomed Will, however...
I think it's a little too so to be overconfident. There is just as much overconfidence displayed on the boards as there is gloom and doom, common now you have to admit that.

So, just think of the gloom and doom as a healthy counter balance to overconfidence.

In reality, I am cautiously hopeful, which I don't even think is the same as cautiously "optimistic." I hope that November will bring about regime change, and I plan to keep doing my part to bring that about, but I am also cautious in speaking about our chances. I think we have a very hard fight ahead of us, a very very hard fight, and the thing that can kill us faster than anything else is over confidence.

Right now, I think we're the underdog, and I think we should act like it, and fight like it...

that prompts the doom and gloom threads here. we all want the administration gone and look for the smoking gun, the sure thing that will bring this nightmare to its end.

so yeah, when things don't start crumbling down on their collective asses as quickly as we'd like, some will react in the negative.
i don't fall inot it myself but, i understand why some would.

25. feeling doomed...
Well sorry to say the U.S. deserves to feel doomed under the "so-called leadership" of the Chimp and his Repugnant minions. The fact that there are people out there too stupid to realize how much the Chimp and his evil-doers are running this great nation and the world down the toilet. If people really want to give this dim-bulb another four years of the presidency then the U.S. deserves to hit rock bottom (by having another Great Depression, Iraq spinning way out of control to full civil war, the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts really becomes impossible to solve, etc.). If it's gonna have to get to the point of everything in this world being shot to hell--then so be it because it's idiots who are in such denial who refuse to wake up and take a good look at the world and see what's happening around them to realize how bad things really are under the Chimp regime!! And because of this the U.S. deserves to crumble. Dammit People--WAKE UP! WHAT'S IT GONNA TAKE TO MAKE PEOPLE REALIZE THE CHIMP'S POLICIES ARE NOTHING BUT FAILURES!!!AAAAAAaaaaaarrrgggggHHHHH!!! Any rebuttals??

19. drank the Hemlock
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 06:39 PM by Marianne
and wondered, as any true philosopher would and should, what it would be like to experience death. Actually eagerly looked forward to the experience.

If Kerry continues on this track we WILL and ARE doomed

He is like a wimpering little kid hiding in a corner and taking the safe course.

Ugh--it is a disappointment.

We will lose if he keeps it up.

He better get on the ball and get some balls, because his recent appearances over the weekend have established that he is looking out for his own political career in the Senate and is too entrenched in the beltway politics to break the mold and challenge Bush'

He does NOT establish confidence.

That is the truth.

If we want to win, Kerry needs to hire someone with some balls, with an intuitive brain and with courage and with a mouth.

God knows, and I do not even levieve in a god, that Bush has many many egregious connections that can be brough forward--and

what do we have now that Deam and Kuchinich are gone?

A limp dishrag.

We deserve MORE than this. We have suffered for three and half years watching our country go down the tubes.

We are now complicit, in our names, in the slaughter of tens and tens of thousands of deaths of innocent people.

It CANNOT stand this way.

We as human beings CANNOT accept this.

Why does Kerry?

Insist upon bringing Kerry out of his beltway entrenched mode. Hold his feet to the fire and insist he defend us--his voters--his national voters, not just his constituential voters. I suspect he has not yet realized that he is not just representing the people of Massachusetts but is appealing to a National population.

In any event, he is a disappointment as far as I am concerned.

and the tragedy is that I must vote for him, because I hate Bush and think he is indeed insane. IMO Kerry is not much better, but may be slightly better.

We NEED more than what we are getting.

24. Here's the Truth, Deal with It---and Kerry and the DNC better, soon
We have all been having orgasims of all the things in the lat weeks "exposed" about Bush. BUT they are not only having no effect on the population; they are actually making him stronger. They aren't pissing on him for planning for Iraq right after 9/11---why, that's just proof of how absoultely far thinking and intelligent he is. They don't give a rat's ass about the stolen $700 million--those numbers are like saying "I lost a quarter" and they think he's wonderful because he didn't wait around for the goddamn Congress. Do you see the pattern?? SCANDLE IS NOT GOING TO BRING HIM DOWN. Thus, we have to market Kerry as God. So far we have marketed shit. After the primaries died down, the Dem party died down. The DNC is doing jackshit. Kerry is doing jackshit. We are not making the news. The goddman other Dems are so busy cleaning and licking their own asses that they are not going after Bush daily like the repukes are going after Kerry. Don't give me "it's early" 'cause the impressions are settling in and it's starting to become "too late". You can't change a goddamn "waffle" impression to filet minon a few weeks before Nov elections by a bunch of ads.

55. 100% correct
We definitely needed to respond quicker - when Bush ran the 'gas tax' slams against Kerry, they had great timing. Kerry had no response. We could have run a cheap ad with Cheney's old quote about how Americans are not entitled to cheap gas to counter it or Bush in 2000 criticizing Clinton for not putting pressure on Saudi Arabia when gas prices were even lower and compare it to gas prices today with Bush's quote. It would have been perfect.

Same with the 'weak on defense' slam. We could have just put up a printed quote from Republican Senator John McCain saying that Kerry is not weak on defense.

But, I did not see a well timed / quick response to either. Heck, I have not seen any response to the gas tax slam.

52. Welcome to DU Dokter...
I used that VERY phrase tonight in reference to our
fellow 'murikkkans! "POD PEOPLE."
That's IT! Exactly!
I have made a concentrated effort to balance
my DU view of populist sentiment, and my conclusion is this-
We at DU find great solace and support here on the
message board, but the reality of majority 'murikkka is this:
They don't have a CLUE and think the Shrib is doing
a great job, and thus, YES, I believe we are doomed.
The silver lining will be watching the sheep get
the shearing they deserve; as they stand shivering in the
cold, we will say, "We tried to warn ya..."

37. We are NOT doomed!
In 1942, the world would NEVER have thought that the Allies could beat Hitler and Tojo. Nazi armies were rolling over the Soviets, the Afrika Korps was past Torbuk and pushing hard for Alexandria, the US Pacific Fleet had just been blasted out of the water, not to mention the loss of Burma, the Phillipines, and most of Indonesia as well as Singapore to the Japanese, and Britain was hurting in a bad way from the Nazi blitz, not to mention the US being nowhere NEAR being on war footing and still just slogging out of the Depression. Yet in 1942, the Allies halted the Axis powers, and the tide turned in that year. The Battle of Stalingrad began, Midway and the Coral Sea were both fought and won by the US Navy, Operation Torch landed in West Africa, the Afrika Korps was beaten soundly at El Alamein, and the US was gearing up for the long war ahead. By the end of that year, Stalingrad had gone from another potential Nazi win to a halt in their advance, Rommel was running for his life, and the US and Britain were gearing up to reclaim the Pacific and France from the Japanese and Nazi Germany. Think about all of that before you say we have no chance of victory, then somehow tell me there is no way we can win. We can and WILL win! The other possibility is simply unfathomable.

He had a great historical analysis examining why at this stage of the race that it was good that things are this close and that is a bad sign for the Bush administration.

Listen, before you see the real shift, it is going to have to get closer to the elections and people are going to have to start paying attention and they really are not at this point.

Goddamnit people show some backbone and start to fight.
