Can anyone identify what is written on McVeigh's shirt in this photo?

Timothy McVeigh (news - web sites) is shown in this April 19, 1995, booking photo taken at the Noble Country Jail in Perry, Okla., just hours after the Oklahoma City bombing. A Secret Service document written shortly after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing described security video footage of the attack and witness testimony that suggested Timothy McVeigh, who was convicted on federal bombing charges and was executed in 2001 for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing, may have had accomplices at the scene. 16. It's Lincoln
I saw a similar shirt one time. It's popular with gun wackos. It's like a wanted poster with Abraham Lincoln's face and the words Sic Semper Tyrannis.

13. Sic Semper Tyrannis
I remember hearing about the shirt on a documentary about Mcveigh. It's latin, loosely translated I think it means "death to tyrants". It's what John Wilkes Booth screamed just after he shot Lincoln. These days it's a popular motto with redneck gun nuts/survivalists/militia types.

Southern Partisan T-Shirt Identical to One
Worn By Timothy McVeigh at Time of Arrest

Factual Background:

Mid-1990s
Southern Partisan sells T-shirts celebrating the Lincoln assassination with a quote from John Wilkes Booth ("Sic Semper Tyrannis") on the front, and Jefferson's quote about liberty requiring "the blood of patriots and tyrants" on the back.

April 19, 1995
Timothy McVeigh is arrested after bombing the Oklahoma City federal building, wearing a T-shirt identical to the one sold by Southern Partisan. (Front and back views of the Southern Partisan shirt can be seen at www.fair.org/sp-shirt.html)

14. Sic Semper Tyrannis
And that's a picture of Lincoln. "Sic Semper Tyrannis" is what some witnesses said that John Wilkes Booth uttered after jumping to the stage at Ford's Theatre.

Pretty dumb thing to be wearing when arrested for driving with no plates after blowing up a federal building.

Had that not happened we would still been rounding up Arabs by the boat load for the bombing.

22. Two points
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 06:51 PM by The Screaming Icon
1) The Southern Partisan shirt is exactly the same one McVeigh was wearing in the mug shot. It was allegedly his favorite shirt, and he wore it as often as he could.

2) McVeigh took the license plate off the car himself, investigators say. I've seen a photo of the car, and it's obvious that there's no damamge whatsoever to it (aside from its being a piece-of-crap old clunker to start with). Allegedly, he hid the plates in a storage facility as a signal to Terry Nichols that he had been successful, or something like that. The plate(s) have never been found.

28. Then he should have worn a Tshirt with a bull's eye around a bunch of
average guys doing their jobs, getting paid mediocre salaries, and who go home most nights to a pizza and ESPN, rather than a tshirt with a bullseye around a president.

It's just so cowardly and hypocritical to pretend you Mr Sic Semper Tyrannis after you just killed a lot of totally innocent people and mid- to low-level federal employees who just work for a living.

to a US pilot who killed just as many needless civilians in fajulla?
There is no difference. Both are cowards... just both are doing
revenge for criminal deaths, and view the collateral as just that.

What the propagandists left out, is that he DID get some of the
perpetrators of the Branch Davidian genocide. The state police
don't publically disclose the genocide, but the truth has come out,
and the only person in all of america brave enough to stand up and
fight back against a criminal government for executing a religious
group was tim mcveigh.

The low level employees execute religious cults for a living and
the others were collateral damage. I think he could have done better
had he focused on the FBI HQ in washington DC, but as he was a local
boy of the midwest, the local HQ was the Murrah building, fact.

He attacked the command and control HQ of a genocide. That is not
a crime except when american is doing the genocide. How hypocritical.
I'm sure you shed as many tears for the 10's of 1000's
of collateral dead your taxes help to exterminate... and i'm sure
you call the militarists who do that murdering, equally, cowardly.

I believe it was what Brutus said to Julius Caesar as he assassinated him.

"Sic semper tyrannis"--roughly translates as "Thus be always to tyrants"

their motto is Semper Fidelis which means "Always Faithful".

I would think that means McVeigh's shirt means Always a Tyrant.
