The recent polls: a big picture |
|
I know a lot of us are bummed about those two polls out today showing Bush leading Kerry by 5, but keep this in mind: The other two most recent polls on Polling Report have Kerry ahead by 6 (after trailing by 5) and ahead by 3. And he's ahead by 1 in today's Rasmussen.
I think it's clear this is a very, very close election. And Bush is ramping down his advertising while Kerry is ratcheting up his. It's a looooong way till November.

1. Quit trying to bring in all this sunshine |

while I'm raining on my own parade. Seriously, I was enjoying being all gloomy and doom-y. In fact, I was just about to go ride the subway all night in a haze and think about how all is lost.

2. The reason people are bummed |
|
is because in spite of all the crap that has come out about the mismanagement, and potential criminal actions of the bush administration, the polls still keep him even
The only bright light is that in spite of all the money bush has been throwing against Kerry he still is just even

3. I'm not trying to start a movement or tell other people what |

to do, but I, personally, resolve not to look at another poll until June. There will still be plenty of time to worry (or move) if warranted.

4. were the polls where Kerry's behind taken |
|
before or after the "60 Minutes" Woodward interview and other coverage of his book? Before or after the primetime presser? These two events during the span of one week are likely to affect people's confidence in this administration.

9. That's what we said about the other books/interviews |
|
First it was Paul O'Neil's book. Then Richard Clarke's. Then the 9/11 hearing. Then John Dean's book. Everything just seems to be deflected away from him.
The consolation is that bush has been spending huge amounts of money and he hasn't pulled away.

I agree with others here-WTF-I see a delusion man as president who is on top of that a moron-a whitehouse where the secretary of state finds out war is going to be fought AFTER another country is told-monster gov't debt (we haven't even found out how much the "new" hostilities cost) created by CUTTING taxes and waging war-a president who endorses unilateral solutions to everything from Israel/Palestine to Iraq, an environment under siege like never before (more arsenic in the water-no mad cow testing)-the entire legislative defeat of the new deal after 60 years and Justice Scalia aka Torquemada ready and willing to be Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court AND PEOPLE STILL WANT THE GOP IN OFFICE (my rant ends with a john Belushi SNL scream and flying off my chair)

6. I don't know but it seems to me... |
|
that an encumbent that is tied, within the margin of error, to the challenger is not good news for the encumbent. bush has spent many millions to NO effect, Kerry has spent one tenth of what bush has and has been incrementally gaining point by point. Just to add one more thing: Those who live by the polls, die by the polls.

7. Bush is taking cumulative damage. |
|
The press has wised up to his Machiavellian manipulations, no more free ride there. Most American's still believe all the allegations leveled against Bush are just political mud slinging. Once they start to realize that they're not just allegations, but fact, it's all over for Bush.
It's going to take some time and I would expect to see Bush even further up in the polls from time to time, but come November Bush is going down.
