Why do people care who leads in the polls NOW?
Seriously... people are running around like their hair's on fire (to use a current phrase) at every poll that shows Bush leading.

In every poll, he's leading by a SLIGHT margin, if at all.

What would happen if Kerry were to jump into a solid lead? Well....

Republicans would raise more money. Republicans would be more energized. Democrats would raise less money. Democrats would be less energized.

This is a long-distance race. Do people freak out if Lance Armstrong isn't in the lead on the first day of the Tour de France? Does it matter if a marathoner is in second place after the first mile?

I swear, this is the first election for half the people here. Calm down!

1. Thank you!
This fight is just warming up and people are already set to throw in the towel and leave! I think NOT!

7. These polls predict nothing...but
they demonstrate who's methods are working at the margins. They can be like the canary in the coal mine. It is VERY disconcerting that Bush*, in spite of his many failures and lies, can still get the kind of support he's seeing. We need to understand what it means and react accordingly.

8. actually
it DOES give us some useful information, but not a lot at this point.

People are NOT paying close attention to the Presidential race right now.... that will happen after the conventions.

People weren't paying close attention to the primaries in December, and few people then would've predicted a Kerry blow-out from the polls at that point.

I think the current polls are encouraging - Bush blew 50 million on ads and got NOTHING from it. NOTHING. Nada. Zip. Zero.
