Doonesbury character to lose leg in Iraq conflict
<http://channels.netscape.com/ns/news/story.jsp?id=200404191849004957714&dt=20040419184900&w=APOXML&coview=>

Garry Trudeau is taking a bold step about Iraq... with a storyline where one of his most popular and long-running characters, B.D., will lose a leg in the conflict. This, of course, is largely preaching to the choir, but I think it shows the extent to which this war is affecting people. The reaction to this should be interesting.

1. Good grief. Good for Gary. As someone who has a sister who
lost a leg, a friend who lost one, there is little that can
hurt harder and deeper than losing a limb. This will drive
a lot home for a lot of people. Poor BD.

read the strip. You might ad the word "spoiler" to the title and change "Doonesbury" to "popular comic strip". That way people who actually ENJOY surprises, won't have it ruined.

Your headline doesn't give people a choice.

8. It scrolled across the bottom of CNN tonight.
Anybody who watched Larry King tonight probably saw it. The original post isn't exactly a spoiler, but I see what you're saying.

10. Many apologies
This had already hit the wire and wound up on (you should pardon the expression) the Drudge Report. I didn't even think about the spoiler effect. I do sincerely apologize for taking away the surprise from faithful Doonesbury fans. I just thought it was important because, as someone noted downthread, I don't think Trudeau ever went this far even in the Vietnam era.

Again, please accept my apologies for the spoiler.;(

But cartoonists were always awake.

On edit: An incredibly embarrassing misspelling. "CarOONISTS".

17. thanks.
that really sucks, both that GW did it to so many that Trudeau felt the need, and that someone finally really spoiled something like that.
Im happy as hell he didnt die though.

19. F'n CNN spoiled it!
It would have been MUCH more effective if we were made to wonder if B.D. was going to live or die for a few days. Farking CNN!

20. so did our local news
Now was it to break a story or to dull the impact? I think the second is far more likely in view of recent media history.
